As an industry pioneer in the use of BIM/VDC, Mortenson is seeking a Director of Virtual Design and Construction to define and lead companywide strategic objectives. In coordination and collaboration with company and functional leadership the Director of VDC will oversee the implementation of core processes and technologies, establish new capabilities, develop leaders and continue to solidify our position as an industry leader in redefining what's possible.

Responsibilities
What will you be doing?

Define and lead overall VDC strategy for the commercial and energy & infrastructure businesses
Partner with other business leaders and act as a change-agent in the advancement of DfMA and other Industrialization techniques
Integrate our VDC vision and core objectives with other functional and support services in the company; in particular those functions that fall with the Integrated Services Group (ie Design Phase, MEP, Planning & Scheduling and Building Performance)
Improve existing methodologies to measure VDC key performance indicators that assess the value and impact of core objectives
Partner with business and operational leaders to understand current state challenges and opportunities to improve both at a company and operating group level; collaborate on implementing solutions
Partner with business and operational leaders to make VDC an integral seamless approach to how we execute projects with an emphasis on improving workflows during the design phase
Evaluate and elevate usage of core processes, tools and technology
Establish and/or maintain core company standards and best practices for VDC including but not limited to BIM execution plans, contract language, buyout support, design phase and preconstruction planning efforts, scheduling support and document quality reviews
Engage company VDC practitioners to enable the capture, documentation, and sharing of lessons learned and best practices to energize, drive consistency and continuous improvement of VDC practices
Establishes and maintain strategic relationships with external customers and partners
Collaborate with Information Technology & Systems (ITS) to administer BIM/VDC technology, and align enterprise vendor engagement, hardware and software with work processes and team member roles
Investigate, test, pilot new or alternate BIM/VDC solutions through partnership with ITS and key team members
Provide mentorship, development and training to team members, specifically those in VDC manager roles in various operating groups
Leadership and management of the Integrated Delivery Advancement Team (IDAT) community of practice
Maintain and advance VDC learning development program
Partner with other business leaders in advocating for company culture, mission and values specifically as it relates to collaborative, integrated and progressive approaches (ie IPD and TVD)
Maintain and continually improve Mortenson's VDC learning, development and training program to meet the needs of the growing business
Responsible for annual VDC budget
Quarterly reporting of VDC and IDAT status to business and operations leaders
Guidance and governance of company VDC policies and procedures to support flawless project delivery
Provide VDC strategy and planning support on select large-scale, complex projects

Education and Experience:

Bachelor's degree in Construction Management or related AEC industry degree

Minimum 10 years related AEC industry or construction experience

Minimum 6 years' experience implementing and managing BIM/VDC workflows

Expertise in developing, implementing and managing VDC processes and BIM solutions to improve project outcomes.

Practical work experience implementing and supporting BIM/VDC solutions such as

Autodesk products: Revit, BIM360, Docs, Navisworks, etc.
Model element quantification to support estimating workflows: VICO, Assemble, etc.
Field measurement and modeling technologies: Laser scanning, total station, etc.
CPM scheduling tools: Primavera, PowerProject, Synchro
Tools that support the visualization of site logistics and planning
esri products such as ArcGIS
