Position Overview: The Safety Coordinator supports the assessment of organizational needs and the design, implementation and evaluation of programs that facilitate the safety of all employees. - Review, evaluate, and analyze work environments to ensure company health and safety programs are designed to control, eliminate, and prevent injuryfor assigned location(s)
- Participate in facility and incident inspections to enforce adherence to laws and regulations governing the health and safety of individualsfor assigned location(s)
- Assist the Manager, Safety in investigating accidents to identify causes for assigned location(s) and recommend measures to help protect workers from hazardous work methods to determine how such accidents might be prevented in the future
- Conduct safety training or education programs and demonstrate the use of safety equipment
- Provide new-employee health and safety orientations and develop materials for these presentations
- Assist the Manager, Safety in providing verbal and written responses where needed to Human Resources (HR) inquiries from management, employees or outside entities
- Enter confidential and non-confidential HR information into various HR or company software systems and databases
- Update & maintain company emergency and crisis management and preparedness
- Develop or implement risk-assessment models or methodologies
- Provide support to the Sr. Specialist Leave Management/Return to Work as needed
- Complete all tasks and responsibilities at a professional level
- Assist in the onboarding of new Safety team members and be a trusted partner to other specialists
- Conduct, in cooperation with first line supervisors, all safety training required by regulation or identified by management, supervisor, or the safety committee as needed to assure a safe workplace.
- Recommend improvements in physical plant, machinery, equipment, raw materials and personal protective equipment to management, supervisor and Manager, Safety.
- Provide refresher training as needed
- Develop and maintain corporate documentation for appropriate standards
- Actively promote safety and health policies and procedures
- Provide the resources to improve and/or maintain a high level of health and safety for employees
- Create and maintain Safety programs in-conjunction with the other Campus safety programs
- Identify, evaluate, and document workplace hazards
- Assist in establishing methods and procedures for correcting unsafe conditions and work practices
- Perform periodic PIV operator check-ins and evaluations
- Assist with accident and injury investigations and follow-ups
- Advise and take part in monthly safety program meetings, to include Medical Response Team (MRT), Emergency Response Team (ERT), Safety Committee, PDC Safety and HazMat Team for assigned location(s)
- Develop and maintain safety tips for daily stand ups and safety calendar for assigned location(s)
- Assist the Manager, Safety in performing safety reviews with the leadership team for assigned location(s)
- Seek and provide feedback on employee safety suggestions/concerns
- Document and follow-up on facility safety inspections/walkthroughs with Inspection schedule and checklists
- Assist Manager, Safety in creating and maintaining Safety Programs to include
- Emergency Preparedness Plans (Crisis Response: COVID, Active Shooter, Life Safety Code requirements ensured, and other(s) as assigned and/or need(s) present themselves)
- AWAIR (At Work Accident Injury Reduction Program)
- Drug & Alcohol/Reasonable Suspicion and DOT (Department of Transportation) program compliance/drug testing
- Emergency Response including though not restricted to ERT Hazmat team, and MRT
- PIV (powered industrial vehicle) Training program
- Bloodborne pathogen, right to know (SDS) training, and other safety training(s) as assigned
- Two Year Degree in Business Administration or similar area of study or equivalent, relevant work experience
- Typically, 3-5 years of safety and/or compliance experience
- Candidate has a strong understanding of the various functions of Digi-Key, how they work together as well as the industry Digi-Key operates in
- Candidate has strong knowledge of Digi-Key brand and its principles
- Generally, spend the workday sitting at a workstation and operating computer devices, such as, but not limited to keyboard, mouse and screen
- Generally, spend the workday walking in a warehouse environment, moving between buildings, and frequently standing.
- Generally, spend the workday performing repetitive motions that involve or affect the hands, head, and other parts of your body
- Must demonstrate the following behavioral competencies; analytical capacity, attention to detail, communication proficiency, continuous learning, customer/client focus, developing others, ethical conduct, information seeking, initiative, manages execution, personal effectiveness/credibility, positive attitude, problem solving, professionalism, project management, relationship building, thoroughness, and time management
- Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources, Business Administration or similar area of study or equivalent, relevant work experience
- Certifications - Examples include but not limited to OSHA 10, OSHA 30
