To preserve the Credit Union's assets by controlling delinquent accounts, collecting delinquent loan payments and/or recovering collateral; training and assisting other Collectors; disposing of repossessed collateral.


Essential Functions & Responsibilities:

  • Contacts delinquent accounts by phone and mail; takes appropriate action to bring current.
  • Analyzes financial situation of delinquent borrowers; takes action to repossess collateral when arrangements to bring the loan current are unsuccessful.
  • Trains and monitors the work of other Collectors; assists with performance reviews.
  • Testifies at legal proceedings as required.
  • Informs management of trends in loan underwriting contributing to delinquent/charged-off loans.
  • Prepares daily, weekly, and/or monthly reports on collection activity for management.

Performance Measurements:

  • Analyzes financial situation of delinquent borrows; takes action to repossess collateral when arrangements to bring the loan current are unsuccessful.
  • Maximize the collection and/or recovery of credit union assets from delinquent and charged-off accounts by collecting XX% or more of the 30 day, XX% or more of the 60 day, and XX% or more of the 90 day delinquent accounts assigned.
  • Adhere to provisions as set forth in the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA) and insure collection activity is always within credit union policy and all relevant regulations.
  • Keep supervisor informed of operational issues affecting the credit union's collection activities.
  • Provide informed, professional, and accurate service and support to all members and associates.


Experience

  • One year to three years of similar or related experience. 

Education

  • A high school education or GED. 

Interpersonal Skills
Work involves much personal contact with others inside and/or outside the organization for the purpose of first-level conflict resolution, building relationships, and soliciting cooperation. Discussions involve a higher degree of confidentiality and discretion, requiring diplomacy and tact in communication.
