Position Information

This is a part-time, non-benefited position. Only NDSU students are eligible to be hired in this position. Unsolicited applications to this posting will NOT be considered.

The Center for Writers (CFW) seeks to help graduate writers develop their abilities to plan, write, and revise their documents to meet the expectations of their readers. Ultimately, our goal is to help writers become more effective communicators.

Currently, we are hiring a graduate student to work as a writing consultant starting in Fall 2021. Generally, our consultants work one-on-one with writers from all disciplines on a variety of documents, including papers for publication, disquisitions, applications, course papers, and presentations. Additionally, our consultants have the opportunity to work on other activities, such as providing workshops, developing online writing modules, and assisting with other writing initiatives.

If you feel you are a strong writer in your discipline and good at working with others, you should consider applying. Some logistical information:
  • We typically hire writing consultants for 10 hours/week (in cases where TAs teach two classes, we propose to “buy them out” from teaching one of the two.)
  • The position is for fall and spring semesters and is renewable.
  • The stipend is $7,000 - $8,000 for 10 hrs/wk and provides a tuition waiver if students need it.
  • Summer work (in addition to the above) is possible and is negotiated in spring.
  • New hires are trained in providing effective writing support.

Students applying for the position of graduate writing consultant should be able to demonstrate the following:
  • Active listening and the ability to work collaboratively with individuals
  • Excellent written and oral communication
  • Desire to work with a wide variety of students and disciplines
  • Flexibility and ability to learn quickly
  • Professional demeanor

    • Please submit the following by 11:59 p.m. on Wednesday, Apr 28 th :
    • Cover letter addressing the qualifications listed above, your interest in working at the CFW, and any pertinent experience
    • CV or resume
    • Two writing samples (different types of writing)

    • Work Location: Libray, Room 16
