To approve or deny mortgage loans based upon underwriting criteria following Credit Union and Regulatory standards. 

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Reviews and evaluates information on mortgage loan documents to determine if buyer, property, and loan conditions meet Credit Union and government standards. 
  • Evaluates acceptability of loan to secondary mortgage markets. 
  • Assembles documents in loan file, including acceptance or denial, and returns file to originating mortgage loan department. 
  • Records loan rejection, specifying investor and Credit Union guidelines and basis for declining application.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Performance measurements: 

  • Communicate underwriting decisions to involved parties within 48 hours of receipt of mortgage file and documentation. 
  • Ensure closing documents are in compliance with policies and procedures, all required signatures have been obtained, endorsed and/or notarized, and files are closed in no more than 50 days from receipt.
  • Ensure established credit union and government standards for the mortgage industry are met at all times and strict compliance with policies, procedures, rules, and regulations are adhered to. 
  • Provide friendly, accurate and professional service to members and associates by responding to messages and correspondence.
  • Develop and maintain knowledge of all mortgage products and rates within the credit union and from the mortgage industry.
  •  

Experience: Three to five years of similar or related experience.

Education: (1) A two-year college degree or (2) Completion of a specialized course of study at a business or trade or (3) Completion of a specialized and extensive in-house training or apprenticeship program.

Interpersonal Skills: Courtesy, tact, and diplomacy are essential. Employee must be comfortable working at community events and meeting with the public as a positive, energetic representative of SCCU and its products and services.

Other Skills: Must have good communication skills. Ten key calculator, typewriter and keyboard skills.
