The Director of Enterprise Risk Management leads the enterprise risk management function of the company.  This position will lead and collaborate with the major risk program areas of the bank that include Compliance, BSA/Fraud, Information Security, Business Continuity/resiliency planning, Credit Review/Secondary Market Quality Control, Physical Security (organizational Security Officer) and Vendor Management.   This position will also have a dotted line relationship and will collaborate with the Internal Audit area of the bank to ensure thorough and comprehensive implementation and continuation of risk management processes, procedures and policies.  This position will strive to continuously strengthen the Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) framework for the organization.

Duties and responsibilities: 

Strategy and Objectives

Establishes, executes and maintains a vision, framework and strategic objectives for the enterprise risk functions to ensure that the bank’s programs support the growing needs of the organization. Defines Continuously re-evaluates the appropriateness of the established framework and strategy and measures the related evolving internal and external conditions.  Effectively challenges and presents a holistic view of the bank’s risk profile and related tolerance.  Partner with bank management to ensure effective risk integration throughout the bank and across the Western footprint.

Risk Assessment, Recommendations and Reporting

Administers and maintains the Risk Appetite Framework and accompanying risk appetite measures (key risk indicators) including development of reporting to monitor trends. Develop and executes on processes for effectively performing periodic assessments of the company’s key risks including gathering and aggregating quantitative and qualitative factors from various business units to identify evolving trends.  Gathers related material and data for regular reporting and creation of dashboards.  These tools will be used to regularly update executive management and established risk monitoring committees.  

 Leadership and Collaboration

Leads the areas of Compliance, BSA/Fraud, Information Security, Business Continuity/Resiliency planning, Credit Review, Physical Security (organizational Security Officer) and Vendor Management.  Establishes, implements and maintains a comprehensive framework that leverages these direct reporting areas in the efforts to mitigate risk for the organization.   This will include aiding in assessing current state, making recommendations for improvements and partnering with area management to implement and maintain a strong framework throughout all areas.


Communication and Education

Partner with direct reporting areas to strengthen the education and awareness of risk strategies and mitigation throughout the organization.  Provide guidance in implementing compliance, audit, and review strategies that support the risk framework of the organization.  Build programs so every team member understands their role in mitigating risk for the organization.

Coaching and Leadership

Provide support, coaching, and feedback to direct reports and their teams. Serve as a thought leader in project groups, providing risk related perspectives and guidance for initiatives, projects and strategies throughout the company.  

Other Initiatives/Special Projects: As needed, assist with special projects related to business process improvement or department strategic initiatives.

Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business administration/management, finance, risk management, or related field required with a minimum of seven years of financial services related experience required.   Experience must include a minimum of five years risk management or enterprise risk responsibility along with team management and leadership experience.
