Polk County has a full-time Finance Director position. Salary range is $94,556.00 to $120,224.00.

Polk County, with a population of 31,524, is located in northwestern Minnesota and is the fifth largest county in the State by land area. The County consists of 58 townships and 15 cities, and the City of Crookston serves as the county seat.

Polk County is proud to be home to the Glacial Ridge National Wildlife and Rydell National Wildlife refuges, several very popular recreational lakes, two county park-campgrounds, two of American Crystal Sugar Company's processing plants, and the University of Minnesota-Crookston and Northland Community Technical College (East Grand Forks) campuses. The County as also ranked #1 in three areas of crop production- spring wheat, dry beans, and sugar beets.

The Polk County organization is governed by a five-member Board of Commissioners. It is the mission of Polk County to provide a comprehensive, high quality set of governmental services to the landowners, businesses, residents, and visitors to Polk County in a professional, courteous, efficient, and cost-effective manner. County operations and services are provided by its approximately 300 employees.

The Finance Director acts as the chief financial officer for Polk County and is responsible for the planning, administration, and coordination of the County's finance and related human resources functions, accounting, budget development and management, and long-term financial functions. This position directly oversees Finance Department staff, sets County finance operational policies and procedures, and is responsible for maintaining County-wide financial integrity and accountability. The Finance Director is responsible for the management and implementation of the County Board finance goals and vision through the County finance management and guiding the development of strategic plans to accomplish the vision and goals of the County. In 2022, the Finance Director will have the opportunity to lead the implementation of a new financial management software system. This position acts as County Administrator in the County Administrator's absence.

Minimum qualifications include a bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, Public Administration, or related field, and extensive managerial experience in finance, accounting, public administration, or related field. Budget preparation experience is required or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
