The mission of the UND Center for Innovation (CFI) is to advance the creation and development of innovative ideas, services and businesses. The Center works as a collaborative partner in a vibrant entrepreneurial ecosystem in Grand Forks, across North Dakota and as part of the One UND Strategic Plan. The CFI helps innovators, students and entrepreneurs grow new and emerging ventures and helps them bring new products and technologies to market. The vision for the Center for Innovation is to be the principal leader guiding innovation in the Northern Plains. Experienced and dedicated staff are ready to facilitate relationships, provide commercialization support, develop University/industry partnerships and provide high-impact internship opportunities. The Center guides entrepreneurs and innovators using face-to-face and online resources and take advantage of the vast innovation and entrepreneurial expertise available throughout North Dakota. The Center’s staff bring a wide range of entrepreneurial experience, expertise and tools to support faculty, students, and the community.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Provide significant support in the preparation and monitoring of department budget and accounts with the Director.
  • Perform all CFI Foundation bookkeeping, budgeting, record keeping, bank account tasks to ensure accurate financial and administrative activities are maintained and ready for annual auditing requirements.
  • Assist the Director with CFI Foundation board meetings to prepare, disseminate and compile agendas, minutes, budgets, financial reports, etc.
  • Manage account receivables and payables for incubator operations and act as the primary budgeting interface with the UND business service center.
  • Assist with event planning activities for Center planned and/or hosted events.
  • Compose comprehensive reports on incubator activities and operations to assist in developing statistical analysis of Center impact on economic development and entrepreneurial activity in North Dakota.
  • Maintain filing systems, oversee processes and policies related to record retention, and modify systems as necessary.
  • Represent and attend a variety of meetings to represent the Center for Innovation on relevant issues or topics.
  • Perform office clerical and administrative duties such as mail, answering phones, greeting visitors and tenants, responding to and resolving complaints and requests for information, copier & reports, and acting as a key first-line representative when anyone interfaces with the Center for Innovation.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Perform grant application assistance to include research, technical writing, budgeting, and reporting support. Tasks involved in fulfilling the above duties/responsibilities include:

  • Monitor grants.gov and other grant research platforms to identify application opportunities connected to the Center’s mission and service line opportunities.
  • Assist with grant writing activities to include application narrative review and editing, budget development and grant application submission to various state and federal agencies.
  • Prepare grant reports and review them for accuracy prior to submission by working with grant project investigators, the UND post-award team, and the UND business service center accountant for the Center.
  • Examine grant budget spending and activities for completion, including payroll and personnel information to ensure grant funding is being used as allocated and on-time.

Minimum Requirements

  • Associate’s degree or equivalent experience
  • Two years’ experience with bookkeeping, accounting, and budgeting.
  • Two years’ experience providing administrative, office support functions.
  • Proficiency in word processing, spreadsheets, databases and other basic business software, including QuickBooks (desktop or online).
  • Successful completion of criminal history records check.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business, finance, entrepreneurship, English, public administration, or a related field.
  • Grant writing and/or reporting experience to include good command of spelling, grammar, punctuation and budgeting/ mathematical calculations to include use of Excel formulas in spreadsheets.
  • Maintenance of office procedures, operations, and organization.
  • Experience working in, owning, and/or operating a small business.
  • Experience working with local, state and federal government entities.
  • Modern office equipment experience to include computers, speakers, projectors, printers, phones, online conference software tools, etc.

Minimum Hiring Salary/Position Classification

$40,000 annual, Non-Exempt, Full-Time, Benefited

Work Schedule/Start Date

Monday - Friday, 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., projected start date is 6/16/2021
