We are looking for a motivated individual to join our corporate office as an Environmental Engineer. The purpose of this position is to provide support and assist the Environmental Affairs Manager by ensuring that American Crystal Sugar Company (ACSC) complies with all applicable federal, state and local environmental regulations, programs and procedures. They will oversee regulatory programs as they apply to the factories and agricultural operations along with provide training and support to internal ACSC customers. They will also manage environmental reporting activities.

The principal accountabilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
  • Identifies and analyzes issues related to regulatory compliance.
  • Review and interprets federal, state and other regulations as they apply to ACSC then manages implementation across ACSC.
  • Develops and documents environmental policies and guidance documents.
  • Performs audits, permitting, reporting and data review required for regulatory submissions.
  • Facilitates and prepares all environmental reports across the organization.
  • Performs regulatory inspections and participates in Agency inspections to ensures follow-up actions are completed.
  • Communicates with various Agency staff and consulting engineers as it relates to environmental compliance.
  • Is a critical team member along with corporate, factory and agricultural staff in solving environmental issues, delivering program objectives and organization of company standards.
  • Facilitates the training and development of environmental programs
  • Review permits and regulations then train and coach others
  • Assures the Development of solid business practices to guarantee all environmental data are routinely obtained from supply sources and entered into appropriate and documented Environmental Data Management System (EDMS).
  • Conducts internal site visits/inspections at the factory or agricultural locations
  • Collect samples, survey or operate equipment.
  • Oversee environmental projects as needed.
  • Manage the compliance calendar to ensure all reporting deadlines are met.
  • Obtains and maintains all Company required environmental permits, procedures, reports and records.
  • Functions as the overall environmental program Manager any time the Environmental Affairs Manager is unavailable.
  • Serves as the Corporate and Factory Radiation Safety Officer, to include supervising use of radioactive material.
  • Fosters effective working relationships internally and with governmental. agencies. Works with state and federal agency personnel on resolving permit and compliance issues on behalf of the Company.
  • Maintains knowledge of environmental regulations while staying abreast of changes to pertinent rules and regulations. Seeks continued growth and understanding of environmental laws.


Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree or Environmental/Civil Engineering and 5 - 7 years of experience.
  • Requires a broad knowledge of state and federal environmental programs and laws, a familiarity of concepts, practices and procedures along with general knowledge of the physical and biological sciences.
  • Knowledge of factory operations and processes preferred.
  • Incumbent must rely on experience and judgement to react, plan and achieve objectives.
  • Requires effective computer, teamwork, mathematical communication skills and the ability to complete job functions with a high degree of accuracy.
