Analytic Research Associates in OptumInsight, Health Economics and Outcomes Research (HEOR), provide analytic support for the analysts and researchers within HEOR. Associates will be involved in all aspects of research activities contracted by HEOR. They will assist in the creation of analytic datasets for administrative claims and electronic health record (EHR) based studies, as well as prospective survey research studies. Associates will be expected to write their own analytic programs (in SAS, R, Tableau, etc.) to carry out data verification. Associates will also conduct descriptive statistical analyses and learn advanced statistical methodologies from senior staff members.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Assist with the implementation of custom clinical research studies under the direction of under the direction of PhD-level Research staff and external clients, working across HEOR projects as assigned
    • Conduct descriptive statistical analysis, including statistical testing, to generate client-ready study result tables
    • Write analytic programs in SAS, R, etc. to verify analysis completed by other project team members
    • Document study process and changes to ensure compliance with SOPs and audit readiness
    • Review, track, and manage study documents for completeness and accuracy
    • Prepare code lists (ICD-10-CM, NDC, HCPCS, etc.) and table shells
    • Assist with data management, evaluating data quality for survey research projects
    • Participate in analytic data set creation for administrative claims and electronic health record (EHR) data base studies
    • Run standard SAS and VBA programs and tools
  • Generate graphs and figures in Excel or Tableau
  • Independently generate feasibility patient counts to support new business opportunities
  • Learn data provenance of claims and EHR data, including medical coding
  • Act as department go-to for running standard tools
  • Test and assist in documentation of new department standard programs and processes
  • Assist with preparation and quality control of final reports, manuscripts, posters and presentations
  • Learn advanced statistical and/or programming software and techniques
  • Train and mentor new ARAs
  • Anticipate needs of multiple project teams and proactively complete work

Required Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor's degree with 1-2 years' experience with research, data and analytics in Biostatistics, Mathematics, Physics, Quantitative Social Science, Theoretical Physics, Quantitative Social Sciences, Economics, Computer Science, Statistics, Data Sciences, or Information Systems
  • 1 year of SAS or R

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree
  • SAS certification(s)
  • Experience with additional programming languages or platforms (e.g. Tableau, Microsoft Access, Visual Basic for Applications , Microsoft Azure or AWS)
  • Established ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
  • Established ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Established ability to work on multiple tasks
  • Established ability to self-teach programming languages and applications

Colorado Residents Only: The salary range for Colorado residents is $64,800 to $116,000.
