We are looking for a strategic-minded, motivated leader to the team as a Director - Agriculture. This position maximizes returns to shareholders by providing guidance in the establishment of cost-effective procedures for receiving, handling, piling, storing and transporting beets to minimize loss of recoverable sugar.

The principal accountabilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
  • Lead and promote a positive workplace culture through ACSC value - Leadership, Safety, Integrity, Quality and Accountability.
  • Pursues cost reduction opportunities for the Ag Operations function.
  • Manages the corporate and factory agricultural operating/capital budgets to meet Company objectives through the implementation of proven management practices and systems, proper application of staff and technical resources, and enforcement of all applicable company policies and procedures, with the primary concerns being safety, cost effectiveness, harvest and beet storage optimization.
  • Ensures the oversight of all capital projects being implemented at agricultural piling sites.
  • Staff Development - provide for orderly management succession by selecting and developing effective subordinate managers, interviewing and assessing potential new employees.
  • Safety - OSHA compliance, safe operating conditions and employee practices of agricultural employees and piling sites.
  • Environmental - compliance with all environmental regulations as it relates to piling sites and sugarbeet discards.
  • Training - development of subordinates and employees in both management and technical areas.
  • Quality - ensures piling site equipment and sites are maintained so that safety and efficient harvest activities are assured.
  • Beet Transportation- monitor and adjust distribution along with oversee the re- hauler's contractor to ensure the efficient and timely delivery of the stored crop to the factories.
  • Company Policies - enforces management compliance with all company policies.


Minimum Requirements

  • Extensive knowledge of all agricultural related activities including agronomy, harvest, and sugarbeet storage and transportation issues normally gained through the completion of an Agri-Business Degree.
  • Minimum of ten years of related work experience.
  • Detailed knowledge of management practices, agronomic principles, accounting principles, and a fundamental understanding of agricultural practices are essential to lead Agriculture.
  • This position must also maintain an awareness of new research and best practices in the production, harvest and storage and transportation of sugarbeets.
  • The ability to develop, implement and manage opportunities to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the business.
  • The Director of Agriculture must be familiar with safety standards, environmental issues, agronomy and labor rules and regulations.
  • This position requires a seasoned manager with planning abilities and well-developed communications skills to provide leadership and elicit cooperation from members/growers in all aspects of sugar beet production.
  • The incumbent must also be able to develop, motivate and direct a large staff and collaborate effectively with peers.
