Job Details
We are looking for a strategic-minded, motivated leader to the team as a Director - Operations. This position directs the production and maintenance activities of the five Red River Valley factories to ensure the safe production of quality products at the lowest unit cost and to ensure the physical integrity, regulatory compliance, security and operational efficiency of each factory site. Factory capital projects and improvements, as well as equipment replacement are responsibilities of this position.
The principal accountabilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
- Lead and promote a positive workplace culture through ACSC value - Leadership, Safety, Integrity, Quality and Accountability.
- Directs the safe, efficient, economic operation of the five factories and support functions in the production of sugar and by-products by setting goals and objectives to increase profitability, recommends annual and near-term factory capital equipment needs, ensures all products are produced to customer specifications, and meeting all regulatory requirements (safety, environmental and quality).
- The incumbent directs maintenance activities for the five factories, including all process equipment, factory buildings, railroad equipment, wastewater treatment facilities and water storage ponds on a 24 hour per day, seven day per week basis.
- Manages the factory operating/capital budgets to meet Company objectives through the implementation of proven production and maintenance management practices and systems, proper application of staff and technical resources, effective capital equipment replacement planning, and enforcement of all applicable company policies and procedures, with the primary concerns being safety, cost effectiveness, production optimization and proper asset stewardship.
- Ensures the oversight of all capital projects being implemented at the five factories.
- Ensures proper systems for production and maintenance activities are established and maintained; and ensures necessary measurements are in place to track employee productivity, processing efficiencies, repair effectiveness, inventory controls, and equipment availability.
- Staff Development - provide for orderly management succession by selecting and developing effective subordinate managers; interviewing and assessing potential new employees; and management of the Company/Union contract.
- Safety - OSHA compliance, safe operating conditions and employee practices.
- Environmental - compliance, pollution control equipment testing and maintenance.
- Training - development of subordinates and employees in both management and technical areas.
- Code - manages the compliance with State pressure vessel codes and State Electrical Board codes.
- Quality - ensures factory equipment and buildings are maintained such that product safety and quality are guaranteed.
- Company Policies - enforces management compliance with all company policies.
Minimum Requirements
- Extensive knowledge of all factory operations.
- Completion of an Engineering Degree
- A minimum of ten years of maintenance, production and engineering experience is required.
- Detailed knowledge of management practices, engineering principles, accounting principles, and a fundamental understanding of production and maintenance practices are essential to lead Operations.
- Remaining current on new technologies and trends in the industry to improve efficiency and effectiveness of the business is also essential.
- Must be familiar with safety standards, environmental issues and code compliance.
- This position requires a seasoned manager with planning abilities and well-developed communications skills to provide leadership; develop, motivate and direct a large staff; and collaborate effectively with peers.
