The Office of Communications and Marketing is seeking a media relations and communications specialist with the ability to both create content as well as bring visibility to the Concordia through distribution of content to key media collaborators. The ideal candidate will be able to work across multiple channels and connect with a broad variety of audiences. The successful candidate will also create meaningful relationships with community members and key community stakeholders.

The Media Relations & Communications Strategist is responsible for the oversight, planning, preparing and implementation of internal and external public relations plans and activities to support the strategic initiatives of the College. This position is also instrumental in the planning, preparing and delivery of crisis communications.

Essential responsibilities include: Collaboration with campus administrators in the development of crisis communications, institutional messaging and Presidential messaging. This position will play a lead role in identifying, curating and creating content in support of the College’s mission. Additionally, this position will be responsible for promoting stories and events through multiple channels and will serve as the primary contact for media outreach and inquiries.

Occasional evening and/or weekend work may be required. Special projects and other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, journalism, English, psychology, or a related field.
• 3-5 years of relevant experience in public relations, journalism, or related communications.
• Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
• Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to practice sound judgment in communicating effectively with a diverse and high-level group of individuals in a diplomatic and professional manner.
• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
• Ability to manage several projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines.
• Understanding of social media platforms and best practices.
• Discretion and the ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality

Preferred Qualifications:
• Demonstrated proficiency with MS Office 365 applications.
• Proficiency with web content management systems.
• Photo/video shooting and editing skills.
• Creativity and “outside of the box” thinking.
• Prior experience in higher education or nonprofit organizations.
• 5+ years of relevant experience
