Dow is looking for a Technical Expert in Rotating Equipment to join the Mechanical Department within Central Engineering Houston which is Dow's internal capital project design organization aligned to the Technical Expertise & Support (TES) organization. Central Engineering executes the majority of new and major expansions of chemical facilities for Dow and consists of locations in Houston, Texas and Chennai, India. Central Engineering is a multi-discipline organization which includes Project Engineering, Project Controls, Process Engineering, Mechanical, PCE, Electrical, Instrumentation, Civil/Structural, and Piping.The Technical expert has demonstrated depth/breath of knowledge and is able to effectively influence decisions to ensure Dow maintains competitive advantage in the application of mechanical discipline technology. This role is a critical link between Dow and the market place to deliver mechanical technology solutions and looks to influence industry standards development to protect Dow's interest. The Technical Expert has global reach and global impact through implementing plans for discipline technology development and maintenance.The Rotating Equipment Technical Expert is expected to ensure the best value-based technical solutions are provided and implemented across Dow's mechanical discipline in support of capital projects.The Technical Expert also serves as a mentor by providing technical coaching and helping to ensure a viable development pipeline for technology professionals.This person works to develop and implement new technologies and improvements across the discipline and its process.Within these functions, they are also expected to help gather and communicate financial impact of improvements.Responsibilities / DutiesProvide value added solutions on complex technical rotating equipment problems (design, selection, equipment performance, vibration, startup, repair, operational procedures)Has a passion for knowledge and support in all types of rotating equipment including API and non API Centrifugal compressors, Fans, screw compressors, reciprocating compressors, steam and gas turbines, pumps, liquid ring compressors, vacuum pumps, agitators, centrifuges, extruders, and associated auxiliary components (i.e. couplings,gears, seals, lube systems, gas panels, etc.).Ensures the development and drives implementation for the Mechanical Discipline Team's most effective technology standards.This includes practices such as specifications, design aids, maintenance strategies, are aligned with business input and work process.Document and communicate savings and financial impact of best practices as applied in support of capital and maintenance work processes.Provides high value technical input on development of business most effective technology in conjunction with businesstechnology centersProvides emergency troubleshooting for equipment in startup/operation to minimize value lossProvides coaching, technical mentoring & development of subject matter experts globallyProvides direction to project teams and technology centers in early project conceptual developmentRepresents Dow globally on standards development organizations such as API/ASME/ISO to influence industrystandards to ensure safe, reliable cost competitive equipment operation.Identifies and implements new mechanical technology and improvements for Dow's competitive advantage.Provide best value technical solutions in the following areas: Technical expertise in the areas of equipment aerodynamic performance including gas properties issues andthermodynamic calculation procedures and system design (which may include acoustics, pulsation dampening, piping design).Technical expertise in equipment components (seals, bearings, lubrication)Technical expertise in equipment repairprocedures Technical expertise in materials selection to meet process requirements.Technical expertise in rotor dynamics (damped and undamped lateral analysis, torsional analysis and transient torsional analysis.Experience:A minimum of a Bachelor's degree is required, disciplines in Mechanical Engineering are strongly preferred.At least 7 years of experience with Rotating Equipment is required, 10 or more years preferred.A minimum requirement for this U.S. based position is the ability to work legally in the United States.
