HR Business Partner

Butler Machinery Company is a third- generation, family-owned company with 18 locations across North Dakota, South Dakota, and Nebraska. Job Summary:

The HR Business Partner (HRBP) will partner with our operational management team to deliver value-added service to management and team members that reflects the business objectives of the organization. You will align business objectives to develop and execute HR strategies focused on talent management, workforce planning, and team member engagement. In addition, you will own several projects that sit within the HR and Training teams. To be successful in this role, you must understand business priorities and translate them into valuable outcomes to the organization. You will help operational leaders utilize data-driven recommendations that improve performance, retention, and the overall team member experience. The HRBP maintains an effective level of business literacy about the businesses financial position, its long-term plans, its culture and its competition.

To succeed, you will need a flexible skill set, including the ability to think strategically, execute tactically, and collaborate across many teams, levels, and situations.

Additionally, successful candidates will demonstrate:

•    Experience in collaborating with operational management to handle employee relations events including but not limited to; progressive disciplinary action, terminations and job reassignment efforts. 

•    The ability to lead HR projects and meet hiring demands in a high growth and ever- changing environment

•    The ability to understand business goals as well as design and implement new approaches, policies and procedures to effect continual improvements in business objectives, productivity and development of HR within the company

•    Operates with autonomy and discretion. A hands-on approach as well as the ability to successfully monitor the "pulse" of the team members to ensure a high level of employee engagement

•    Solutions focused and be comfortable working in an environment which demands strong deliverables along with the ability to identify problems and drive appropriate solutions

Success in this role will require influential partnership with middle and senior management within the organization to execute the HR strategies that foster organizational and people effectiveness. The individual in this role must understand business priorities and translate them into an HR agenda that supports the business as it grows. Additionally, the individual in this role is accountable for partnering with leadership to teach, coach, and cultivate the Butler culture by ensuring the Leadership Principles are taught, lived, and integrated.

Duties/Responsibilities:

•    Communicates weekly with assigned operational teams 

•    Consults with operational management, providing HR guidance when appropriate

•    Analyzes trends and metrics in partnership with the HR group to develop solutions, programs and policies.

•    Manages and resolves complex employee relations issues. Conducts effective, thorough and objective investigations.

•    Maintains in-depth knowledge of legal requirements related to day-to-day management of team members, reducing legal risks and ensuring regulatory compliance. Partners with the legal counsel as needed/required.

•    Provides day-to-day performance management guidance to operational management (e.g., coaching, counseling, career development, disciplinary actions).

•    Works closely with management and team members to improve work relationships, build morale, and increase productivity and retention.

•    Provides HR policy guidance and interpretation.

•    Conducts hiring negotiations and develops offers for new hires, promotions and transfers.

•    Provides guidance and input on operational restructures, workforce planning and succession planning.

•    Identifies training needs for team members at all levels of the organization.

•    Participates in development and conducts new supervisor training.  Follows up to ensure training objectives are met.

•    Performs other related duties as assigned. 

Education and Experience:

•    Bachelor's Degree from accredited university preferrable in Business or Human Resources

•    5+ years human resource business partner experience resolving complex employee relations issues

•    Working knowledge of multiple human resource disciplines, including compensation practices, organizational diagnosis, team member and union relations, diversity, performance management, and federal and state respective employment laws

•    Experience supporting Union hourly employee workgroup is preferred but teachable

•    Willingness to travel on a regular basis via company plane and/or fleet vehicles to Butler locations in ND, SD and Neb

•    HR experience supporting teams in multiple states with up to 800 team members 

•    Proficiency with HRIS systems and experience with upgrades and component implementations 

•    SHRM Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) or SHRM Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP) credential or ability to obtain certification within one year of employment

•    Ability to comprehend, interpret, and apply the appropriate sections of applicable laws, guidelines, regulations, ordinances, and policies.

•    Ability to acquire a thorough understanding of the organization’s hierarchy, jobs, qualifications, compensation practices, and the administrative practices related to those factors.

•    Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.

•    Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

•    Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

•    This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities but does serve as a coach and mentor for other positions in the department.

This position reports directly to the HR Director and is a part of the HR Team consisting of an HR Assistant, Benefits Specialist and SR HRBP.
