Immediate need of a 2nd Shift Metal Parts Sandblaster! (experience preferred, but willing to train the right candidate) Are you trainable? Can you work well with your hands? $1000 signing bonus if hired (does not apply to internal applicants).

Avtec Finishing, provides quality metal finishing to our customers, in a timely manner. We are busy and need to find the perfect recruit that takes an interest in both working with science (chemicals) and in a production/warehouse type environment. This is a critical and hands on position.

SUMMARY

In preparation for the plating process, the Sandblaster operates specialized tools and machinery that fire high-powered jets of sand or other abrasives at metal and other similar hard surfaces. This is done to remove paint, grime, old adhesives, rust, and other imperfections from the surface so that it can be refinished.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Reads work order to determine specific sandblasting instructions; prepares surfaces by masking/ grit blasting
  • Abrades surfaces of metal or hard-composition objects to remove adhering scale, sand, paint, grease, tar, rust and dirt and to impart specified finishing using abrasive-blasting equipment
  • Pours abrasives, like sand of specified grade into machine hopper
  • Masks specified areas of object to protect from abrading action
  • Loads parts in enclosed rooms, into tumbling barrels or into cabinets
  • Turns valves on equipment to regulate pressure composition of abrasive mixture flowing through nozzle or into tumbling barrel
  • Starts equipment that directs blast or flow of abrasive-laden compressed air over surface of parts
  • Manually directs nozzle over surface of large parts or inserts arms through glove-fitted cabinet openings, manipulates small parts under nozzle for specified interval
  • May examine finished parts to make sure conformance to specifications
  • Maintains safe work conditions by following guidelines and procedures for handling and disposing of hazardous chemicals
  • Troubleshoots equipment malfunctions and completes preventive maintenance
  • Completes jobs on schedule and prepares reports upon conclusion of projects
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND/OR TRAINING

  • High school graduate or equivalent (preferred)
  • 0-2 years experience
  • Most of required training is done on the job

JOB KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Ability to process product with direction from supervisor or person providing direction
  • Good organizational skills and the ability to follow instructions
  • Basic math and geometry for figuring square footage of parts and racks, and amperage requirements for plating thickness
  • Ability to coordinate more than one job at a time
  • Ability to maintain a regular and reliable attendance record
  • Fluency in reading, writing and speaking the English language
  • Good hand/eye coordination
  • Ability to lift and move 1-50 lbs. as needed
  • Ability to interact with co-workers and supervisors in a cooperative manner

EQUIPMENT USED

  • Sandblasting cabinet
  • Anodize, hard coat , chromate and plating racks
  • Inspection equipment for checking production work
  • Job routings for processing work to required specs
  • Automated plating line tiers and splines for racking parts

2nd Shift: 3pm - 1am Monday through Thursday + overtime as needed

Wage Range: $19 +/hour - based on work experience
