Electrical Substation Technology Instructor

Full-time instructor sought for Mitchell Technical College (MTC) Electrical Utilities Substation Technology (EUST) program to teach in the area of electrical substation technology including install, inspect, test, repair and maintain electrical equipment in substations and other smart grid equipment on the power grid.  Instructor is responsible for developing lesson plans and teaching all courses as assigned; assessing student progress in classroom, laboratory, and field settings; developing and updating curriculum; and assisting with recruiting and advising students.  Position is for the 2021-22 school year and begins August 2021.

  • A minimum four years’ experience in the industry or related work experience required.
  • Candidate must have a journeyman lineman or journeyman substation certification card.
  • Diploma in Power Line preferred.  
  • Must be eligible to meet State of South Dakota post-secondary instructor certification requirements.  
  • Applicants should possess strong writing and technical skills; the ability to communicate effectively; master change; work in groups; and have a strong customer orientation.

This is a 9-month teaching position.  Preference will be given to applicants who have related industry experience, teaching experience, evidence of teaching skills, ability to create lesson plans and experience working with diverse student populations.  Excellent time management, organizational, and attention to detail a plus.

 

Candidates must be able to pass a state and federal criminal background check. Position open until filled.
