Primary Responsibilities:

As an Experienced Senior Tax Specialist, your focus will be on a variety of state tax matters impacting the enterprise, including state tax compliance, provision, controversy and special projects. You will also have opportunities to become involved with federal and international tax issues as well as M&A transactions. The successful candidate will gain exposure to a wide variety of tax matters and have the opportunity to lead process teams in the following areas:

  • The preparation of quarterly and annual income tax provisions
  • The timely and accurate preparation of federal and state income tax returns and quarterly estimates
  • Assisting Tax leadership with M & A and other related projects
  • Providing research support for the analysis of proposed and existing tax laws, regulations, and rulings
  • Assisting with tax controversy matters, including audits and notices
  • Prepare and review income tax accounting necessary for the organization's federal (SEC) and state (Insurance Departments and Managed Healthcare) filings

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance
  • 4+ years of tax or accounting experience in a public accounting firm or equivalent experience in a large corporate tax department
  • Knowledge and understanding of state/local income and franchise tax laws and regulations
  • Ability to prioritize assignments as well as managing teams and work load within statutory and internal deadline
  • Solid research and analytical skills
  • Solid computer literacy including intermediate proficiency with MS Excel
  • You will be asked to perform this role in an office setting, however, may be required to work from home temporarily due to space limitations
  • Employees are required to screen for symptoms using the ProtectWell mobile app, Interactive Voice Response (i.e., entering your symptoms via phone system) or a similar UnitedHealth Group-approved symptom screener prior to entering the work site each day, in order to keep our work sites safe. Employees must comply with any state and local masking orders. In addition, when in a UnitedHealth Group building, employees are expected to wear a mask in areas where physical distancing cannot be attained

Preferred Qualifications:

  • CPA or graduate degree
  • Exhibit an understanding of federal and state taxes
  • OneSource or equivalent income tax compliance software experience
  • ASC 740 (Income tax accounting) experience
  • SSAP 101 (Insurance tax accounting) experience
  • Ability to use pertinent data and facts to identify, analyze and make recommendations to management on a range of issues within area of expertise
  • Excellent organizational and verbal / written communication skills
