Park Manor-River's Edge is a leader in skilled nursing and rehabilitation services. We are currently looking for a Full-time Chef and a Full-time Culinary Specialist.

Objective for Chef: Assembles and prepares all food in sufficient quantity and quality to cover food service requirements; observes, instructs and enforces sanitary standards for food preparation and storage to ensure safety and quality of foods. Employs, instructs, and supervises portion control to prevent food waste. Cleans and supervises aides in cleaning of equipment, floors, and other surfaces to ensure a sanitary work environment. Supervises dietary aides assigned to food preparation and cleaning duties.

Objective for Culinary Specialist: Under direction of the Food Service Supervisor, performs tasks related to the preparation, transport, and serving of food, and related cleaning tasks, including, but not limited to, dishwashing, equipment, floors, walls, tables, and equipment; replenishes food and supply stocks in kitchen, dining areas, and employee lounges.

Qualifications:

  1. Must be at least 18 years of age.
  2. Must have training and/or experience in food preparation, cooking, quantity and portion control, sanitary food handling and storage principles, and safe use of food service equipment.
  3. Must demonstrate knowledge of different food and their respective cooking or other preparation methods to maximize yield, nutritional quality, flavor and appearance.
  4. Must be willing and able to understand and follow written and verbal instructions and give understandable instructions or directions to others.
  5. Previous food service training and/or experience is preferred.

Working Conditions

  1. Works in well-lit, ventilated area.
  2. Exposed to heat, moisture, hot surfaces, and substances throughout each work shift.
  3. Exposed to other potential hazards, including, but not limited to, sharp instruments, machines, electrical equipment, chemicals, food dust, and wet floors.
  4. Is subject to exposure to infectious waste, diseases, conditions, etc.
  5. May be exposed to, and must tactfully deal with the unique personalities and changing moods of residents, visitors, and co-workers.
  6. May be exposed to personal circumstances of private affairs of residents, and nursing home business information, which is, and must remain confidential.

Physical Requirements:

  1. Must move intermittently around, and throughout storage, cooking and preparation areas, and around potentially hazardous equipment, utensils, and surfaces throughout the work shift.
  2. Works or stands at least 6 hours of each 8-hour shift or 75% of shorter work shifts.
  3. Bends, stoops, or reaches at least 6 times per hour throughout each work shift.
  4. Works with, and must physically handle and visually control sharp instruments, electrical and mechanical devises, hot surfaces, and hot liquids and solids throughout each work shift.
  5. Intermittently lifts, pushes, pulls, or carries containers, devices, or objects weighing more than 35 pounds throughout each work shift.
  6. Must be able to assist in the evacuation and/or relocation of residents and/or staff in event of an emergency.
