In this newly created leadership role, you will oversee software delivery of the core platform components in our Health Benefit Accounts space, with the goals of building the fintech platform of the future upon which all of Optum Financial HSA and other consumer accounts will rest.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Lead teams focused on software product development and integration of acquired entities
  • Build and develop team members
  • Define and build integration solutions
  • Collaborate with key enterprise teams
  • Participate in Global and Detail Design sessions
  • Provide thought leadership to organization
  • Ensure security, scalability, operational excellence and data sharing platform stability
  • Collaborate with integration partners
  • Lead the overall delivery for financial software systems
  • Engage in hands-on design and ensure alignment of strategy, architecture, tools/methods with software engineers and architects to execute product roadmaps
  • Create written and oral communication materials that effectively summarize findings, support fact-based recommendations and provide appropriate detail to substantiate conclusions
  • Maintain work papers, project deliverables and other artifacts that can be recreated and leveraged as intellectual capital
  • Participate in executive meetings as necessary to update the progress
  • Provide support and participation in development of business requirements to ensure business needs are captured and delivered
  • Direct quality assurance, scalability and performance testing efforts
  • Conduct research studies that may include collecting, analyzing, trending and presenting data and recommendations to management
  • Develop financial models and tools, including cost-benefit analysis, resource utilization models and performance reports
  • Assess and recommend vendor products / tools to leadership
  • Cultivate an environment of continuous engineering improvement through mentoring, feedback, and metrics
  • Partner with peers to identify opportunities for code sharing, common services, joint development, etc
  • Keep up with the latest industry research and emerging technologies to ensure we are appropriately leveraging new techniques and capabilities

Required Qualifications:
  • 1+ year experience in a large cross matrixed organization in a technology leadership role (Senior Director/AVP or VP)
  • 5+ years of experience using Agile methods to deliver software
  • 7+ years of combined experience in systems integration, data modeling/data management and information security disciplines
  • 10+ years of software engineering industry experience, delivering business value through use of new and emerging technologies
  • Experience designing cloud-native applications
  • Experience with software testing automation, especially with Java Automation Frameworks. Knowledge of CI/CD, system testing, test automation. Experience in Infrastructure, application monitoring, platform stabilization and Investment performance
  • Proven experience attracting, hiring, retaining and leading top engineering talent and high-performance product engineering teams (ie. FTEs, not contractors).
  • Deep technical capabilities in modern architectures such as domain driven design, publish/subscribe data models and fully native cloud development
  • Prior experience building out platforms or capabilities in a product development
  • Knowledge of CI/CD, system testing, test automation
  • Advanced knowledge and understanding of architecture, applications systems design and integration with a detailed understanding of applicable programming methodologies
  • Thorough understanding of scalable, secure and robust n-tier architectures for achieving end-to-end performance, scalability, availability, reliability, usability, configurability, integration and security
  • Experience in DevOps Infrastructure, including Containerization and Orchestration, Platform Infrastructure Strategy and code promotion
  • Solid conceptual understanding and hands-on programming experience with Node JS and Web Services Technologies
  • Track record of building cohesive technology teams
  • Hands-on leader with the ability to understand the code and provide feedback to the team
  • Proven track record of influence leadership and building high-performance self-managing teams

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with financial technology, card processing, health benefit plans, etc.
  • Knowledge of Java, Vertx, Kafka, Apigee, Relational DB, NoSql and Architecture strategies such as microservices, components, tools, concepts, best practices, standards and systems of record
  • Good foundation in Sql and No-Sql technologies
  • Big-data knowledge
  • Experience in Infrastructure, application monitoring, platform stabilization and Investment performance
  • Knowledge on Omnichannel and FaaS
  • Strong technical foundation; able to engage the team on architecture and design, and get under the hood of complex architectures, systems, and interface design
  • Proven ability to coordinate across technology, business and enterprise capability teams
  • Proven understanding of software delivery patterns and best practices
  • Ability to partner with executive leadership to push technical solutions forward

Colorado Residents Only: The salary range for Colorado residents is $130,300 to $250,200.
