Dakota Wesleyan University in Mitchell, South Dakota invites applications for the full-time (i.e., twelve-month) position of administrative chair of the university's nursing program. The chair reports to the provost and oversees the university's two nursing tracks (an on-campus baccalaureate track and a "hybrid" LPN-BS track on the university's Sioux Falls campus), seven full-time faculty members, and number of part-time faculty members. The university's nursing program is accredited by CCNE and underwent a successful accreditation visit in February 2018. Start date is January 2022. Rank and salary will be commensurate with the candidate's qualifications and experience.

The successful candidate will:

  • Hold a terminal degree in nursing or an appropriate healthcare field.
  • Possess successful administrative experience in higher education or other professional setting.
  • Possess successful experience with overseeing assessment and accreditation processes or the promise thereof.
  • Be able to facilitate teamwork and the alignment of learning outcomes across multiple programs.
  • Be committed to innovation in higher education and the creative expansion of nursing educational opportunities to meet the needs of the region that the university serves.
  • Be willing and able to mentor nursing faculty as they move toward leadership roles.
  • Be committed to the integration of digital technology into the teaching and learning process.
  • Spend the majority of their time on the Mitchell campus.

Essential, ongoing responsibilities associated with the position include:

  • Working collaboratively with colleagues, within the department, the college, and across campus.
  • Facilitating and encouraging the ongoing professional development of nursing faculty.
  • Participating in the development and launch of new nursing programs and initiatives as necessary and appropriate.
  • Providing service to the department, college, discipline, university, and community.
  • Remaining abreast of best practices in nursing education and engaging in professional development as appropriate.
  • Coordinating curriculum development and revision as necessary and appropriate.
  • Ensuring the ongoing and appropriate assessment of student learning across all nursing programs.
  • Community outreach and the development of relationships with members of the local and regional communities.
  • Acting in a professional and collegial manner (this includes maintaining a regular and ongoing presence on campus, maintaining confidentiality as required, holding regular office hours, participating in recruitment and retention efforts, participating in various academic ceremonies, and being accessible to students and colleagues).
  • Participating in ongoing evaluations.
  • Assuming other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
