Position Information

Assistantship appointments may vary in length and are contingent upon the availability of funding. Terms on duties and responsibilities will be provided on the graduate assistantship contract.
  • Students must be registered for graduate credit each semester (fall and spring) they receive an assistantship and must be in good academic standing and maintaining satisfactory progress toward their degree. In addition, international students must maintain the appropriate residency status.
  • Teaching assistants whose native language is not English must demonstrate English proficiency (refer to section titled "English Language Proficiency Procedures for Graduate Teaching Assistants").
  • Students offered a graduate teaching or graduate service assistantship must consent to a criminal background check. This includes graduate researchers teaching in a lab.
  • Students placed on Academic Warning may retain their assistantship. Students placed on Probation may no longer receive an assistantship.
  • Required annual training must be completed within 30 days of start date and yearly thereafter.


The Graduate Assistant will directly assist the Office of Multicultural Programs (OMP) in the areas of program organization, cultural program planning, data collection and analysis, correspondence with departments on campus, and outreach to off campus entities. Must be an NDSU student to be considered for employment.

The position will be at least half-time (Monday through Friday, 20 hours per week and may include some evening and weekend hours). The student will receive a tuition waiver (does not include fees) and a stipend of $1,000 per month. The graduate assistantship will be for the 2019-2020 academic year. Another appointment beyond the academic year is contingent upon satisfactory performance in the position, graduate studies, and availability of funds.

Job Description

The Graduate Assistant willassist with the following:

  • communicate and collaborate with the Office of Multicultural Programs staff which consists of the director, a program coordinator and other graduate Assistants.
  • assist OMP staff with program planning such as finding space for events, order catering, publicizing, and evaluating
  • significant data collection and analysis duties
  • meet individually with students to provide ongoing encouragement and advisement
  • assessment duties according to the direction the Equity and Faculty Office
  • participate in campus programs such as Discover NDSU, Opening Weekend, and Welcome Week
  • reception office duties, as needed
  • other duties as assigned

Qualifications

The Graduate Assistant must be admitted to a graduate program at NDSU; demonstrated leadership in data collection and analysis abilities; must be proficient in the use of Microsoft Office; a vailable to work for 20 hours during the regular office hour time frame: Monday-Friday, 8 am to 5 pm.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in education or related field. Experience working with multicultural populations in an education setting. Grant writing knowledge.

Academic year 2019-2020, see above. The Office of Multicultural Programs is located in 178 Memorial Union, NDSU campus.
