Underwriter
Valley Mortgage, North Dakota’s largest independent mortgage lender, is seeking an experienced mortgage loan Underwriter. This position is an excellent career opportunity for the candidate who has the experience and designations required.
Requirements: YOU MUST HAVE EXPERIENCE in all types of home mortgage and refinance loan Underwriting. You must possess D.E. and SAR designations. You must be a team player, work well with others and be a focused, hard worker with strong communication skills. See detailed job requirements below.
Valley Mortgage, in business since 1983, is located in their new building on 45th St S in Fargo. Although we would prefer you work with the team at our office, we are interested in talking to qualified candidates in the North Dakota, Minnesota, South Dakota area to work remotely.
You would be working with a seasoned team of mortgage professionals. We use the Encompass loan origination software. As a mortgage lender, Valley Mortgage provides end-to-end service to our clients from initial meeting to in-house loan approval and loan funding. Valley Mortgage is local owned, managed and operated. Job Description
Complete a detailed review and analysis of loan files to determine if a borrower presents an appropriate level of risk and ensuring compliance with company and secondary market investor standards.
Essential Functions and Basic Duties:
- Conduct a thorough and accurate analysis of loan applications and all related documentation for completeness and conformity
- Review and evaluate entire credit and collateral package to insure loan is of investment quality
- Review and evaluate borrower’s credit history to support loan repayment
- Review all initial disclosures for completeness and accuracy
- Review and analyze borrowers’ income documentation to determine adequacy, stability and continuance of income
- Review and analyze borrowers’ adequacy of liquid assets
- Review and evaluate loan files for other risk issues, red flag and potential misrepresentation
- Review title reports, purchase agreements, property inspections reports, appraisal reports and related documentation for acceptability
- Review title work, flood certificate, homeowner’s insurance and rate lock
- Maintain a thorough working knowledge of the investor and secondary market lending policies, procedures and underwriting guideline as well as state and federal regulations
- Provide timely and effective communication of conditions and requirement to loan officers other staff and/or third parties
- Issue written denial letters to applicants not meeting required approval criteria
- Respond accurately and timely to scenario questions from production staff
- Other duties as assigned by management
Required skills and Competencies:
- High School diploma or equivalent education
- Two to Five years of mortgage loan underwriting experience or equivalent
- Ability to utilize mortgage automated underwriting and processing system
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
- Demonstrated proficiency in basic computer applications, such as Microsoft Office software products
- Direct Endorsement Certification
- VA Staff Appraisal Reviewer certification preferred
- Appraisal analysis skills
- Knowledge of current FHNM, FHLMC, HUDA, VA, USDA and investor guidelines
