Job Summary

The Inpatient Pharmacy Technician I is responsible for coordinating and replenishing narcotic and non-narcotic medication distribution throughout the health system to provide patient medications in a safe, accessible and timely manner. The technician provides IV preparation and delivery support, prepares, dispenses and inventories medication in storage areas and keeping records of medication preparation.

Essential Job Functions

Monitor selected medication use, waste reconciliation and discrepancy reports, and report deviations in compliance to the Pharmacy Supervisor.

Coordinate automated dispensing systems and cart fill activities to provide efficient medication inventory control.

Responsible for adherence to the department's controlled substance security policy and for sterile compounding duties.

Address distribution system operational problems identified by users and provide technical expertise to pharmacy and nursing staff.

Maintains pharmacy technician practice competencies in selected areas of pharmacy operations. Maintains appropriate patient and department records and documentation in compliance with state and federal regulations and department of pharmacy policies and procedures.

Utilization of pharmacy automated and non-automated systems.

Performs other duties as assigned or needed to meet the needs of the department/organization.

Demonstrates understanding and follows infection control policies and procedures according to standard operating procedure.

Maintains requirements for age specific competencies for the position and demonstrates the knowledge or principles of growth and developments and the skills necessary to provide patient/customer care/services.

Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of and compliance with:

All pertinent safety, health and environmental policies, procedures and guidelines.

Working safely, without causing harm or risk to self, others or property.

The work environment safety procedures and prompt reporting of unsafe practices, procedures, accidents, injuries or other safety violations to the Leader.

The use of all safety equipment and personal protective equipment.

Driving Requirements

Professional Drivers: Persons who drive as their main responsibility OR transport passengers or hazardous materials.

License, Certification & Registration

Pharmacy Technician-North Dakota Board of Pharmacy-Prior to Start Date

Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT)-Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB)-Prior to Start Date

Driver's License with Acceptable Driving Record-Drivers License - Current State Licensed-Prior to Start Date
