The Senior Project Manager responsible for managing strategic projects and other smaller work efforts ensuring scope is delivered according to deadlines, budget, and quality standards within the Optum Care Delivery segment. The Senior Business Project Manager will have the opportunity to lead many diverse projects including, but not limited to: New product partnerships between UHC/Optum Care, EMR/Practice Management, care management solutions, and data/analytics

This position uses expertise and leadership skills to direct project team(s) and ensure project goals, requirements, other deliverables, and delivery deadlines are met. The Project Manager develops project plans, builds project schedules, manages project meetings, communicates progress and status, enforces quality, management, and identifies, responds, and manages risks, issues, changes and manages all project activities and ensures all project phases are documented appropriately. The role partners with project executive sponsors to drive execution consistent with business objectives.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Lead or help develop program or project scope statements, in consultation with applicable Creates and executes project plans and revises appropriately to meet changing requirements and needs. Plans and schedules project timelines and milestones using the appropriate tools. Manages day-to-day operational and tactical activities of a project. Develops and delivers progress reports, proposals, requirements documentation and presentations. Diagnoses task/procedural change issues and helps to resolve the problem
  • Ensures that project documents are current and complete, as well as appropriately managed and stored. Assures that project legal documents are completed and signed. Conducts project post-mortems and creates lessons learned reports to identify project elements that were both successful and unsuccessful
  • Determines the content of status reports and frequency of delivery; analyzes results of the progress reports troubleshoot problem areas. Defines project success criteria, communicating that throughout the Project team. Reviews deliverables prepared by the Project team
  • Understands how to communicate difficult and sensitive information tactfully. Effectively communicates relevant project information to superiors. Proactively manages changes in project scope, identifies any potential crisis or issues and devises contingency plans to mitigate concerns
  • Manage program or project cadence and reporting, working with executive sponsors and key stakeholders to drive execution towards business objectives, fulfilling scope, quality, budget
  • Lead and implement high visibility initiatives across the enterprise
  • Provide analysis and support on various topics such as the competitive environment, health care industry, government relations and new market opportunities
  • Help create new solutions to address difficult and long-standing challenges in improving health care outcomes, consumer experiences, and reducing cost of care
  • Create a comprehensive communication plan to be used to engage frontline staff
  • Support senior leaders in engaging with and influencing other stakeholders

Required Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate degree or equivalent work experience
  • 3+ years of project management experience
  • Willing to work out of our Minnetonka, MN corporate office
  • Proficiency with MS Project, Excel, PowerPoint and SharePoint
  • Domestic (U.S.) travel as needed, up to 25%. Overall travel safety and personal health concerns will be factored into travel decisions and requirements
  • You will be asked to perform this role in an office setting or other company location
  • Employees are required to screen for symptoms using the ProtectWell mobile app, Interactive Voice Response (i.e., entering your symptoms via phone system) or a similar UnitedHealth Group-approved symptom screener prior to entering the work site each day, in order to keep our work sites safe. Employees must comply with any state and local masking orders. In addition, when in a UnitedHealth Group building, employees are expected to wear a mask in areas where physical distancing cannot be attained
