The Director oversees and establishes long range plans and service programming for cancer services and is responsible for business development for an integrated delivery system. Works closely with hospital, clinic and medical leadership, in particular the physician department chair of cancer services to achieve regulatory compliance and long range goals. The position manages, develops and oversees operations including achieving operating and capital budgets, appropriate billing practices and service delivery to stakeholders. Manages and facilitates research and development projects with outside vendors and companies. Directs and analyzes major equipment and capital purchases.
Position oversees all human resource functions to include hiring, training, performance reviews and recognition and reward. Develops and champions department performance and behavioral standards and works to continually improve quality of services. Ensures compliance with all regulatory requirements and holds leaders and staff accountable for meeting goals. Utilizes and applies quality process improvement principles in achieving administrative responsibilities.

JOB DIMENSION & ASSIGNED DEPARTMENTS
Director will have oversight and accountability for current services in multiple locations associated with Cancer Services which includes Medical and Radiation Oncology, Infusion Services and Support Services. Director will work collaboratively with leaders of all service lines, departments and locations to provide cancer services to support the provision of the highest standard of clinical care.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Supports and models behaviors consistent with the mission, vision and values of Altru Health System.
  • Develops and implements short and long-range goals for Cancer Services and is responsible for measurable outcomes and effective use of resources. Responsible for program and service development in response to both internal and external stakeholders. Develops collaborative relationships with leadership, physicians, clinical, professional and support staff. Sets standards for operational performance for the division/department(s) and fiscal accountability. Develops and achieves annual financial targets and holds managers and employees accountable to budget targets.
  • Supports planning, implementation and monitoring of cancer services to meet Commission on Cancer/American College of Surgeons standards.
  • Partners with department chair of Cancer Services to develop processes to ensure the organization is following evidence based standards in all services and meeting all regulatory and medical staff requirements. Develops collaborative relationships with physicians, clinical, professional and support staff.
  • Recruits, develops, retains and leads a talented team of management and staff committed to accomplishing the goals of Altru Health System and Cancer Services. Builds an environment of shared commitment to organizational goals and fosters an environment conducive to maximizing individual and collective productivity, emphasizing performance and collaboration. Conducts performance reviews, actively recognizes and rewards employees and takes appropriate actions when performance is not meeting expectations. Acts as a mentor and promotes professional growth of employees. Takes responsibility for personal growth and development and meets all system educational requirements.
  • Seeks out operational efficiency and involves employees and physicians in workforce redesign as appropriate to better serve the patient as well as create a workplace that all employees can function at their highest competency and productivity.
  • Maintains competency in all organizational, department and outside agency standards relevant to services provided and ensures compliance. Manages processes to ensure all regulatory standards are met as well as works to prevent potential legal risk to Altru Health System as appropriate. Accesses internal resources to assist in adhering to standards as well as ensures staff understands expectations.

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS
Required:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Healthcare, Management or Business Administration or equivalent.
  • Minimum of five (5) to seven (7) years of hands-on experience in cancer services with strong outpatient and inpatient multi-dimensional operational management experience and/or equivalent clinical leadership role preferably in an integrated delivery system.
  • Experience in vendor relations and contract negotiation.
  • Must demonstrate outstanding interpersonal and written communication skills. Demonstrates the ability to establish a productive relationship with a variety of stakeholders without compromising consistency and honesty. Possesses the ability to work effectively and collegially with physicians and other professionals.
  • Demonstrates the ability to use various software programs including Microsoft Office. Experience and knowledgeable in electronic health records systems and application of clinical technologies.
Preferred:
  • Master's Degree in Business Administration, Health Care Administration or health related field.
  • Experience with application of lean/lean six sigma in a healthcare setting.
