About the role:

Trusted Media Brands is looking for a Copy Editor reporting into the Deputy Editor, Copy Desk. The copy editor is responsible for copy editing and proofreading products produced by the company's editorial teams, including magazines, books, special-interest publications, custom publishing projects and digital articles.

About you:

You are a word person who cares deeply about accuracy, details big and small, typography, grammar, word nuances and our readers. Your perfect day contains a variety of topics, possibly including recipes, DIY, scenery/travel, crafts, birding/farming/gardening info, people stories, and nostalgia. You are able to look past sentence structure and read each story as if a reader at home is seeing it for the first time, and you enjoy collaborating with multiple brand editors to fix nuances and big holes alike.

Your day-day:

* You will edit and proofread copy for magazines, books, special-interest publications, custom publishing projects, advertising and marketing projects, and other work as assigned.
* While using Word and InCopy, you will ensure that all content follows in-house style and is on-brand, accurate, grammatically correct, clearly written, of value to the customer, and in good taste.
* As a Copy Editor you will ensure that content, format, style, and design elements are consistent and correct while checking facts against source material, doing independent research as needed.
* You will work closely with editorial managers to suggest improvements to headlines, deks, ledes, captions, cover lines, graphic elements, and other content while supporting other departments as needed with grammar and style questions.
* Assist copy chief in maintaining and updating house style guides for Editorial Department use.

You have:

* Four-year degree in relevant field of study or equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
* A minimum of two years of professional publishing experience, including previous copy editing and/or editing experience.
* Outstanding writing, spelling, punctuation, language, and grammar skills, as well as extensive knowledge of AP Style and/or the Chicago Manual of Style.
* Excellent eye for detail.
* Organizational skills and ability to prioritize and delegate a heavy workload with conflicting demands, tight turnarounds, frequent process and workflow changes, and challenging deadlines.
* Strong problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to diplomatically resolving conflicts involving workflow, assignments, and conflicts with other teams.
