Research Tech - Soil Health

Position Information

The Soil Health Extension Program at North Dakota State University (NDSU) is seeking a full-time technician to support both applied research and Extension programs. This person will be responsible for working closely with the Soil Health and Agriculture Research Extension (SHARE) Farms located in Richland and Grand Forks Counties as well as other research projects (greenhouse, lab and field studies) related to soil health. They will be asked to provide technical support for graduate and undergraduate students within the soil health program. Additionally, they will provide Extension support in the form of planning field days, developing Extension circulars and videos, webpage content management, program evaluation and providing technical assistance to producers and consultants on occasion.

Minimum Requirements:

Must have a bachelor's degree in soil science, plant science, biological sciences, natural resource management, agricultural systems management or closely related field with knowledge of agricultural systems and an innate ability to communicate.

Preferred qualifications:

Masters degree in an agricultural field (completed or in progress), certified crop advisor experience working directly with producers, knowledge of cover crops and/or soil health practices and an ability to present to groups (using presentations and demonstrations) during Extension workshops and conferences.

This position is funded by grants, making it an annual contract with renewal based on supervisor evaluations and grand funding obtained. The position will start on July 1, 2021 (or negotiated start date) and will commence on June 30, 2022.
