Position Summary Thousands of Minnesota kids need help with math and you can make all the difference. Offer your time and talent as a tutor and be more for these students. As a Math Tutor, you'll help students in elementary or middle school to improve their skills and confidence. With great training and onsite coaching, we'll prepare you to work with pairs of students to build fundamental math skills. Students make the most progress when you are there, so our tutors serve during school hours and are needed for the whole school year. We are currently recruiting for the 2021-22 school year. Tutors have the option of beginning in August 2021, October 2021 or January 2022. This is an AmeriCorps member position with Math Corps. Although the earnings are modest, the rewards are great! You'll join an amazing group of 500 tutors, determined to help students be more. What to Expect Be a change maker by providing structured math tutoring 1:1 or in small groups of students during school hours. Be committed to helping students build their skills and confidence. Be ready to grow by participating in regular on-site coaching sessions to review student progress and get feedback. Be impactful by participating in training and ongoing professional development. Be the motivation by representing Math Corps at school-sponsored activities to help build awareness of Math Corps. Be an ambassador of the program by sharing your experience with the wider community. Perks Package Give your time as a tutor and you'll receive a scalable perks package based on your time commitment of 35, 25, or 18 hours per week. Perks at 35 hours a week: A stipend of $750 paid every 2 weeks Up to $4,441 for tuition or student loans* Federal student loan forbearance and interest repayment Individual health insurance - Monthly premium 100% covered Child care assistance - Based on family size and income Perks at 25 hours a week: A stipend of $535 paid every 2 weeks Up to $3,172 for tuition or student loans* Federal student loan forbearance and interest repayment Perks at 18 hours a week: A stipend of $410 paid every 2 weeks Up to $2,417 for tuition or student loans* Federal student loan forbearance and interest repayment *The Segal AmeriCorps Education Award can be used to pay tuition or repay qualified student loans. Individuals 55+ may gift their award to their child, grandchild, foster child or step-child. Award amounts listed are for tutors beginning their service in August 2021. View benefits grid for other start dates here. What it Takes Great tutors come from all walks of life. Whether you are 18 or 85, the most important qualification is a desire to help children succeed. That said, you also need to meet the following minimum qualifications by the time you begin your service. Are dependable and have a history of good attendance Able to understand and follow instructions Are energized by young learners and want to help them discover new things. Eager to work collaboratively with the classroom teaching team. Have basic computer skills (like email and navigating online) Can speak, read, and write English fluently 18 years of age or older with a high school diploma or equivalent A citizen, national, or lawful permanent resident alien of the United States* Agree to and successfully complete a background check *Applicants who have received deferred action for childhood arrivals (DACA) through the U.S. Department of Homeland Security are not eligible to serve as AmeriCorps members at this time. Contact us at or . About our Organization Minnesota Math Corps is an AmeriCorps program that helps thousands of children in grades 4-8 improve their math skills each year. Started in 2008, the program has helped more than 20,000 students build foundational skills and get on track with math. Recent evaluation shows Math Corps students are twice as likely to achieve year end benchmarks than their peers without Math Corps. The program is replicated nationally and is currently offered in Minnesota, California, Georgia and Michigan.
