Position Description & Details:
The Department of Plant Pathology at North Dakota State University (NDSU) invites applications for the position of lead Plant Diagnostician. This fully-benefitted position, paid for from appropriated dollars, is 90% extension and 10% teaching. The successful applicant will lead activities and supervise employees in the Plant Diagnostic Laboratory (PDL) at NDSU.

Responsibilities:
Specific responsibilities will include: 1) use and follow established protocols to diagnose plant diseases, insect pests, and weed samples submitted to the PDL and, report results appropriately to clients, and, if appropriate, recommend integrated pest management recommendations; 2) cooperate as needed with plant pathology, entomology, and weed science faculty at NDSU for successful and accurate completion of diagnoses; 3) supervise other PDL employees; 4) lead efforts for seed-borne pathogen testing with an emphasis on seed potatoes; 5) participate in both the Great Plaint Diagnostic Network and the National Plant Diagnostic Network; 6) teach at least one laboratory section of the undergraduate Introductory Plant Pathology course each fall semester; 7) supervise and lead graduate student teaching assistants who are responsible for all other laboratory sections of the same class; and 8) work with departmental administration and front office to develop resources and manage budgets for the PDL. Advertised Salary:

Minimum Qualifications:
M.S. in plant pathology or closely related field with research experiences in plant pathology; experience with modern molecular diagnostic tools; effective organizational and inter-personal skills; and effective written and oral communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:
Ph.D. in plant pathology or closely related field with research experiences in plant pathology; coursework in entomology and weed science; and teaching experience at the college level.
