Position Overview There are currently two openings for Admissions Counselors at Marquette University. The Admission Counselor is an official representative of the university. This individual is involved with recruitment of prospective students by means of contact with high school guidance and career counselors, college fairs, informational sessions and meeting with prospective parents, students and others regarding admissions to Marquette.
The Admission Counselor will be asked to represent Marquette University to prospective parents and students through answering admissions related phone calls, traveling to an assigned domestic territory (to be determined), visiting high schools and community-based organizations, presenting to large and small groups, attending at on-campus events, and generally participating in counseling activities in the day-to-day operations of the Undergraduate Admissions Office.
In addition to the traditional responsibilities, the Admission Counselor will dedicate extra time to reviewing freshman applications for admission and responding to office email inquiries. |
| Duties and Responsibilities | 1. Answer prospective student inquiries (phone, email, and letter), meet with walk-in visitors, and generally represent Marquette to external constituents. Conduct informational/evaluative interviews with prospective students (freshman and transfers) and their families.
  1. Review applications for admission and scholarship decisions; offer or decline applications based on review by other counselors and a review committee member.
  2. Serve as a territory manager for a designated territory. Represent the university to prospective students throughout the country through off-site and virtual recruitment activities (high school visits, college fairs, information nights, hotel interviews).
  3. Serve as (or provide assistance to) the liaison between the admissions office and some of the university's schools, colleges or departments
    5. Increase the quality of university relations with assigned Milwaukee-area high schools' college guidance departments.
    6. Represent the university to prospective students at on-site and virtual visit and open house programs.
    7. Continually update personal knowledge base about the university and its position in the marketplace\, especially the university's points of distinction\, as well as those of its competitors. |
    | Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities | ??? A bachelor's degree
    ??? Valid driver's license
    ??? Excellent oral and written communication skills.
    ??? The ability to travel including some weekends and evenings. |
    | Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities | ??? One year of admissions related experience is preferred, but not required.
    ??? Strong intercultural communication skills are important for success in the role
    -Ability to speak another language, other than English, is preferred but not required.
