Summary of Position:

The purpose of this position is to provide a fully competent cowl engineer to design and develop future engine enclosures and components.

The ideal candidate for this position will have a minimum of a bachelors in Mechanical Engineering and 3 to 5 years of experience in design of marine composite structures related to aesthetic panels, enclosures, latching and environmental sealing.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

The candidate will be responsible for

  • the design and development of composite engine enclosures and structural systems.
  • the design and development of enclosure sealing and drain systems.
  • the design and development of enclosure latching systems and structural support.
  • interacting with multiple groups including Engine Design, Industrial Design, Manufacturing, Service and component suppliers.
  • creating subcomponent design timelines and resource estimates.
  • writing subcomponent test plans, analyzing test results, and recommending design direction.
  • Basic Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • 3 to 5 of experience in composite structures, sealing systems, and latching systems design
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to convey complex test results in a clear and concise manner.
  • Detail oriented with the ability to work independently.
  • Ability to work in a fast paced dynamic team environment.
  • Familiar with injection molded plastics and processes.
  • Familiar with SMC composites and processes.
  • Familiar with Die Cast and Investment Cast materials and processes.
  • Familiar with metal stamping materials and processes.
  • Familiar with extruded and molded rubber materials and processes.
  • Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working with Industrial Design groups
  • Familiar with marine cowling design and testing
  • Experience with Pro-E
