Piping Designer

Position Characteristics/Responsibilities:
Applies a solid level of understanding of the process / mechanical work required to execute a project
Plan and execute small, routine design projects with minimal supervision
Demonstrate the ability to balance multiple, competing priorities while working under tight deadlines
Exercise of judgement is required on details of work
Must have basic understanding of the needs of other disciplines to support their work

Technical Responsibilities:
Produce drawings using AutoCAD
Produce and manipulate 3D models using AutoCAD Plant 3D
Trace out, sketch and correctly identify process lines on the Process Engineer's P&ID and on a corresponding 2D or 3D representation (Piping Isometrics, Plans, Sections, and Renderings) and verify their accuracy
Identify and list the proper materials for a given process specification
Designs pipe appropriately to commonly available fabrication and erection methods, and to accommodate reasonably foreseeable inspection and maintenance practices
Coordinate with engineers, technicians and other team members from multiple disciplines to prepare deliverables on a timely basis
Understanding and efficiency with standard design and drafting practices
Read and understand Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), piping isometrics, hydraulic and pneumatic drawings
Communication Skills
Possess basic verbal and written communication skills
Communicates with process staff and staff from other departments
Attends project meetings and may report on aspects of specific work assignments

Education / Skills / Experience:
Associate degree in Computer Aided Drafting or related field, technical trade school courses, or equivalent experience
Minimum two (2) years experience in 3D piping modeling
Produce Isometric Drawings using Isogen is desirable
Proficient in the use of Navisworks and Bluebeam is desirable
