This person will lead a global product roadmap with responsibility to grow our Building Automation Systems business as we transition from traditional models to digital capabilities including SaaS, Cloud, IOT, and Analytics. This is an exciting opportunity for a seasoned product leader to be a part of the team that leads JCI into the next generation of connected spaces.The Executive Director will be responsible for building and driving the product road map which will transform the Building Automation Systems portfolio to an industry leading set of products in the connected world. As the owner of the overall Building Automation Systems portfolio led by JCI's flagship Metasys product, this person will translate JCI's corporate strategy into global product portfolio decisions. S(he) will use their knowledge of the ecosystem, competitors, and JCI's capabilities to "look around corners" and ensure that JCI is first to market with compelling, industry leading solutions.In addition to providing strategic vision, this person will lead the day to day activities of the product function. S(he) will lead, develop and approve all strategic product roadmaps and requirements, and develop cross product opportunities. As a strong influencer and connector, the Executive Director will champion development teams and break down barriers to success. Leading through influence, building strong product teams and identifying the right talent within the product organization by building skills and capabilities will be critical. The product leader will collaborate with Sales and Marketing teams to understand the "voice of the customer" adjusting to feedback and trends as needed.How you will do itThe Executive Director is a key leader on the Building Automation Systems team and responsible for the financial success of the building automation product lines. The product leader will work within JCI to secure funding to support the annual product marketing & launch plans. S(he) will oversee pricing models and guidelines for the portfolio aligning with sales forecasts and accountabilities. This person will work with Global Products Research team to gather market intelligence & conduct customer research designed to better understand customer needs & identify unique insights to be used in the development of product, channel & marketing strategy. Maintaining a knowledge of the marketplace by participating in industry advisory bodies, etc. and acting as an internal SME for the enterprise will be critical.Most critical is the Executive Director's responsibility to build, lead and grow product teams for the future of JCI. S(he) will be responsible for coaching and mentoring within the Product Management function leading both a direct team of Product Managers as well as influencing others. This person will have strong communication and coaching skills and manage effectively up down and across the organization. Externally, the product leader will be an evangelist of JCI's products and innovation, participating as needed in conferences, trade shows and other industry gatherings. S(he) will be viewed as an innovator and subject matter expert both internally and externally to the market and JCI's customers.Principal Responsibilities Lead a forward thinking, innovative product road map for the Business Automation Systems suite of products assisting the business in its transformation to a leader in the connected buildings space. Provide product market insight by participating in industry advisory bodies Approve customer and product prioritization Translates corporate direction & strategy into global product portfolio decisions Develops the product business plan for the business Evaluates & facilitates inter-company product synergy opportunities Communicate the strategy and gain alignment with the greater organization Recommend investment decisions Lead, develop & approve strategic product roadmaps Approve product requirements Champion development teams by breaking down barriers to success Develop & execute cross-product opportunities Approve the annual product marketing & launch plan Secure funding to support the annual product marketing & launch plans Acts as SME (Subject Matter Expert) for the enterprise Drives product lifecycle activities including approving the life cycle business plan Implement consistent metric & KPI tracking; holds team accountable Support & build team skills & capabilities within the product management function Oversees pricing models & guidelines for the defined product portfolio Oversees product claims and supporting data Support alignment and accountability with forecast & commitments Support and recommend capabilities needed to execute the product strategy in operations and the supply chain What we look for 8+ years of experience as a product leader with both software and platform experience with proven success in building innovative and entrepreneurial businesses. Experience with digital transformation and how it applies to the markets in which JCI competes. Experience building forward thinking, strategic product roadmaps in emerging technology, SaaS or IOT businesses and have the capability to drive a cloud-based modernization strategy. Knowledge of the digital ecosystem, IOT, connected products, advanced analytics, artificial intelligence, machine learning and their applications with proven product success in these areas will be key to success. An understanding of how these technologies apply specifically to connected spaces will be a plus. Proven track record of evaluating strategic partnerships, making recommendations for alliances, participating in M activities, and driving market research. Most importantly, this person will be an "intrapreneur" and internal influencer who can bring together people and ideas from across the JCI organization to unlock innovation for strategic product plays in the marketplace. A strong financial acumen and understanding of the impact that product roadmaps make to the business will be critical. Capability to interact with technical teams and experience working in an agile environment. An understanding of best in class Product Marketing and working with Marketing teams to determine strategic go to market plans will also be a high level of importance.
