TITLE: TrainND Manager

OVERVIEW: Continuing Education and TrainND, an extension of Bismarck State College, focuses on providing life-long learning and training opportunities for professional development and personal enrichment as well as conference management services. We are looking for a candidate to develop, sell, and administer customized workforce training programs for business and industry. This position will actively research, creatively design, and effectively implement methods to educate and enhance the performance of North Dakota's workforce. Is directly accountable and responsible to the Dean of Continuing Education and TrainND (CE).

Position Description & Details

Create and maintain business relationships with clients and BSC faculty and staff
  • Research leads, qualify prospects, identify sale opportunities for new and existing clients while building trust with business and industry leaders in the defined region.
  • Network and develop relationships that support the learning needs of businesses, organizations, trade associations and agencies.
  • Work directly with clients and potential clients to determine business goals, performance gaps, and conduct needs analysis.
  • Plans, develop, and manage work schedule to meet with current and potential clients. Creates business relationships, maintains list of industry prospects and prepares action plans to meet with clients.
  • Collaborate with BSC Deans, Faculty, and the Polytechnic Director to develop and implement non-credit career pathways.

Develop, sell, and administer workforce programs for business and industry
  • Develop proposals, initiate contracts, and provide oversight of the delivery and outcomes of the training.
  • Design, implement, market, and manage continuing education programs that support skill development and performance improvement for individuals and organizations.
  • Ensure delivery of quality programs with strong revenue potential to meet goals.
  • Seek new opportunities for programs, non-credit career pathways, certifications and apprenticeships offered through the CE division.
  • Assist with recruiting and evaluating CE trainers and facilitators. Communicate employee development needs to facilitators to ensure curriculum is in conjunction with the company's objective.
  • Monitor trends in learning and development to connect CE programs to businesses and the Southwest region of ND helping organizations and individuals achieve their goals.

Miscellaneous duties
  • Promotes innovation, creativity, and ideas to improve/enhance processes, functions, etc., in CE and for the college while focusing on innovation at a flat level and fostering a culture of no fear for innovative practices.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned.

  • Occasionally - 1-33% - Reach with hands and arms, stoop/kneel/crouch, or crawl, climb or balance, or lift up to 25 pounds.


Minimum Requirements

  • Appropriate bachelor's degree (business, education, human resources, training and development, curriculum and instruction, sales, marketing, etc.).
  • Three years of experience working with the business and industry community in a sales or consultative capacity.
  • Demonstrated successful experience in the areas of contract development, negotiation, customer service, decision-making, project management, marketing, and budgeting.
  • Excellent computer software skills (i.e., Microsoft Office Suite - Word, Excel, etc., email and electronic calendar), strong internet familiarity with proven searching techniques, contact management software knowledge, and virtual learning platforms.
  • Ability to independently manage simultaneously the details of multiple programs and projects, track activities and, meet deadlines as well as work in a team environment.
  • Ability to effectively organize, focus, prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment. Able to keep track of discussions with clients; follow-up with useful information and follow trends critical to clients.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, interpersonal, and organizational skills. Ability to read communication styles of team members and clients who come from a broad spectrum of disciplines. Ability to collaborate with business, industry, organizations, agencies, and associations.
  • Travel is required (mostly SW region of ND).


Preferred Qualifications

  • More than three years of directly related work experience.
  • Active in a local Chamber or Convention and Visitor Bureau Association or any other association focused on talent and economic development.
  • Experience and knowledge in continuing education programs, adult learning principles and concepts, lifelong learning programs and how to apply them to solutions.
  • Knowledge of data collection and analysis including surveys, interviews, and focus groups.
  • Skilled in facilitation and training.
  • Skilled in leadership development programs.
  • Evidence of creativity / innovation.
  • Enjoys and thrives in a friendly, highly visible, entrepreneurial, and active working environment.
  • Experience in training and development, management consulting, organizational development, workplace training and human performance improvement concepts.
