Description

The Graphic Design, Events, and Communication Specialist is responsible for designing marketing materials (flyers, brochures, signage, posters, etc.) following UND brand standards and assisting with marketing and communication coordination for the Student Academic Success & Career Engagement (SASCE) unit. This position will also assist with the planning of all programs and events provided through SASCE. In collaboration with other staff in the unit, the position will design and implement programs and events to meet the needs of various student populations. The position will be responsible for providing guidance and direction as new programs and events are planned and implemented. This position reports directly to the Events and Communication Coordinator.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Communication needs for the Student Academic Success & Career Engagement unit Design brochures, signs, annual reports, advertisements, and other communication materials Create materials by hand or by using technology, including computer software programs. Adobe's Creative Suite—including Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, and more—is the standard in the industry and most employers expect designers to be proficient with its programs. Meet with clients to gain an understanding of what they want their proposed communications to look like. Create or incorporate illustrations, pictures, and designs to reflect the desired theme and tone of the communications. Produce drafts for review by clients and make revisions based on the feedback received. Review final productions for errors and ensure that final prints reflect client specifications. Help support UND website updates for the Student Academic Success & Career Engagement Unit. Work closely with the Events and Communication Coordinator and all departments within the SASCE Unit to identify marketing needs and serve as a liaison between the SASCE departments & UND Marketing & Creative Services. Assist with the coordination necessary to develop, create and distribute traditional and digital communications and promotion materials, including printed publications, direct mail, signage, websites, emails, videos, texting, social media, etc. 

Other duties as assigned

 

Perform special projects as assigned by the supervisor, Director/Assistant Directors of Student Academic Success & Career Engagement, Vice Provost for Student Success, and the Provost & Vice President for Academic Affairs. Continue to grow professionally through participation in conferences, organizations, and other professional development opportunities.

Serve as assistant to the Events and Communication Coordinator within the Student Academic Success & Career Engagement Unit

 

Provide assistance and support to programming, services, and event functions within the unit such as international student orientation, study abroad fairs, career & internship fairs, career development programs and activities, as well as advising, Starfish, and retention workshops for students, faculty, and staff. Help the Events and Communication Coordinator research best practices for providing optimal programming opportunities for various student populations. Work closely with internal constituencies and external stakeholders as programs and events are planned and carried out. Collaborate with others across campus to provide leadership and training for those involved in programming, outreach, and events. Assist the Events and Communication Coordinator with programming and coordination of New Student Advisement and Registration.

Required Competencies

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design, Art, Visual Arts, Communications, Marketing, Management or related field Experience with program development and event planning Proficient with Adobe Creative Suite: Illustrator and InDesign Successful completion of criminal history records check.

Preferred Qualifications

  • One or more years of professional work experience in marketing, graphic design, public relations, or communications Experience utilizing various social media platforms, including Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, and Twitter Previous experience in higher education, specifically student services  

Minimum Hiring Salary/Position Classification

$38,000 annually, benefited, exempt

Work Schedule/Start Date

40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. with some evening or weekend work occassionally.
