Black-Top Paving has an outstanding opportunity for Project Engineer to help lead asphalt and maintenance projects as we continue to build community.The Project Engineer assists the leadership team in the daily operation of both the asphalt and maintenance teams. This position helps with preconstruction activities and project schedules under the direction of the Project Manager, including project takeoff, organization of site facilities, field layout, and CPM master schedules. The Project Engineer works in conjunction with the other team members to drive improvement in all associated work processes affecting environmental, health, & safety compliance, reliability, quality, production, and costs. This position also supports the team in development and growth, employee skill development, problem-solving and resolution, building employee commitment and ownership and holding other team members accountable. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:Support the daily project management functions as directed.Assist with project schedules under the direction of the Project Manager and Project Superintendent, including CPM master schedules, procurement schedules, submittals schedules, and short-interval (3-week look-ahead) schedules as needed.Prepare meeting minutes for project coordination meetings as a prime or subcontractor, and subcontractor coordination meetings.Track work items put-in-place, including Status Reports and Productivity Reports through Heavy Job.Manages site photo documentation, including jobsite photography, drone footage, and 360-degree images.Monitor and ensure project quality by performing site evaluations and managing subcontractors.Perform basic to complex takeoffs on plans (SDDOT, Cities, private work).Collaborate with potential clients and customer to review project.Perform field measurements on private client's projects and document site.Negotiate agreement terms, manage construction contract drafts, bid on projects, and obtain permits to analyze and mitigate risks.Assist Project Superintendent, Project Manager, and Safety Director to ensure all safety requirements are followed and documented.Create and maintain a good working relationship with all employees within the team.Promote and emulate the core values of Journey Group. Education and Experience:Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Project Management, or related field of study. At least two (2) years of related experience; or the equivalent of education and experience to meet the essential functions of the position. Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other Characteristics:Knowledge of asphalt materials, processes, and equipment is required. Ability to read and interpret documents such as plan sets, safety rules, operating and maintaining instructions and procedure manuals. Build partnerships and work collaboratively with others to meet shared objectives, establish credibility, and influence others.Effectively communicate through professionally written material and verbal presentations.Strong planning and organizational skills, including a keen attention to detail and the ability to juggle multiple tasks, work under pressure and meet deadlinesStrong customer focus and the ability to work with internal and external stakeholders.Competent to work independently, take initiative, set priorities, and see projects through to completion.Demonstrate interpersonal and presentation skills for frequent contact with clients and co-workers.Highly developed problem solving, analytical and decision-making skills.Mature leader who maintains a professional appearance and demeanor.Demonstrates a positive attitude, integrity and social/cultural awareness and sensitivity.Possess a valid state issued driver's license and evidence of insurability.Basic accounting knowledge.Knowledge of general safe work practices.Proficient with electronic and mobile information.Proficient with Microsoft Office products, HeavyBid, and other scheduling software.Manage change, embraces new ideas, team player, disagrees constructively.Working Conditions A majority of work takes place in an indoor office setting equipped with a computer, desk, phone and other typical office equipment. Some work occurs in the field and travel to other locations is occasionally required for meetings and trainings Must be able to move about on foot to accomplish tasks, particularly on job sites with unfinished and uneven surfaces. Must be able to walk, stand, and sit for extended periods of time.
