General Description:

The Maintenance Manager hires, develops, and oversees the maintenance personnel who support and maintain facilities including building infrastructure, utility systems, grounds, chemical process equipment, filling and packaging equipment, boiler and refrigeration operations, third party contractor management and site security. Responsible for the administration and compliance of the site Preventive Maintenance (PM) and Corrective Maintenance (CM) programs, supporting EHS safety protocols and guidelines. Budget and manage departmental finances including specifying, procuring and expense approvals.

Principal Responsibilities:

  • Hire, train, and ensure staff performance meets MGK expectations in maintaining facilities and equipment to ensure adequate repair and maintenance of chemical process equipment and related support utilities, building and exterior equipment.
  • Support and develop staff in ensuring proper running of utilities including Ammonia Refrigeration, steam, water, oil and compressed gas systems.
  • Secure MGK's building and grounds and maintain safe working environment for employees
  • Tasks include air quality testing; spare parts ordering, tool and inventory management; equipment demo and installation; general knowledge of process operations
  • Support first-responder staff and also provide first-responder on-site presence through on-call after hours when necessary
  • Utilize MGK's CMMS systems to establish procedures, prioritize and record maintenance tasks, asset management and life cycle
  • Ensure all stationary engines and mechanical equipment such as air compressors, generators, motors, chillers, turbines and steam boilers, to provide utilities, such as light, heat, cooling or power for buildings and industrial processes maintained in accordance to manufacturers' requirements and maintain up-to-date records of maintenance.
  • Visually inspects equipment at periodic intervals to detect malfunctions or need for repair, adjustment, or lubrication.
  • Support continuous improvement projects and provide information on costs estimates associated with such improvements
  • Prepare departmental budgets and forecasts, identify capital expenditures required to replace obsolete equipment providing a cost/benefit analysis in conjunction with the Director of Facilities & Engineering
  • Provides operating metrics including but not limited to: Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost, and Lean.

Qualifications:

  • High school degree or G.E.D. required. Technical or Bachelor's degree strongly desired
  • 8+ years experience in working in an industrial facility providing maintenance support, managing and developing staff
  • Hands on experience and general knowledge of mechanical and electrical repair, refrigeration principles and fabrication
  • 2 nd Class "B" Minnesota Boiler Engineer's license or higher (or willingness to obtain)
  • Strong mathematical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills required.
  • Knowledge of automation controls (PLC, BMS) desired.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Technical Level Emergency Responder certification desired (completion of 40 hour program)

Physical demands:

This position is a working manager with corresponding roles and responsibilities. Communicate effectively in the English language, including following oral and written instructions, in order to communicate with people inside and outside the organization to: 1) promote efficiencies within the MGK business operations, and 2) maintain a safe working environment.

While performing duties of job, workers are constantly required to bend, lift, walk, or carry equipment. Employees must occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds, or occasionally transport up to 600 pounds on wheeled carts or dollies. This position may require changing shifts or working more than 8?? successive hours to meet occasional production or manpower demands. Work may be performed under extreme outdoor weather conditions including hot and cold ambient temperatures, snow and rain. Workers will be required to work in a plant environment where there are constant moderate noise levels and occasional loud noise levels; and occasional temperature extremes. Employees will be expected to work around, with, and adjacent to potentially dangerous equipment, chemicals, and processes. Workers would be expected to wear appropriate safety gear and follow safety procedures for each situation as required or desired. Job requirements will occasional dictate working over six feet above the floor or ground, or inside of confined spaces.

Frequency Definitions: Constant = Over 40% / Frequent = Up to 40% / Occasional = Up to 10%
