Heavy Equipment Technician Position Purpose:

This position is responsible for the repair and maintenance of customer equipment, company owned equipment and equipment covered under warranty.

Duties and Responsibilities of the Heavy Equipment Technician:

  • Complete repairs and perform maintenance on Company fleet
  • Complete repairs on customer equipment in a timely manner
  • Builds knowledge of dealer supported product lines, service standards, and procedures and keeps abreast of all changes in various models of equipment sold and serviced by the distributor
  • Perform work as outlined on repair order with efficiency and accuracy, in accordance with Service shop and Factory standards
  • Have the ability to perform occasional service calls and overtime work
  • Perform basic field repair and maintenance jobs with minimal supervision
  • Basic testing knowledge of all machine systems
  • Follow all company safety policies and procedures
  • Develops and employs diagnostic related reasoning skills
  • Examine the equipment to determine if additional safety related or service work is required
  • Assists in the collection of data necessary for efficient inventory control
  • Attends local, regional, national service schools and training sessions as requested
  • Maintains a clean, orderly, and safe working environment both in shop and at customer job sites
  • Maintains and cares for shop tools, equipment, and vehicles
  • Completes all paperwork required for jobs
  • Keep abreast of factory technical bulletins
  • Maintains close, positive working relationships with service, parts and administrative personnel
  • Conducts himself / herself in the presence of customers in a manner which will retain a good opinion of the company and the service department
  • Performs as directed by the Service Management
  • Responsible for operating heavy equipment and trucks in a safe manner
  • Follow all company safety policies and procedures
  • Understand and follow federal, state and local regulations, such as those governing the disposal of hazardous wastes

Heavy Equipment Technician Objectives:

Speed/Quantity -

  • Improve on-time completion of service vehicles

Sales Increase -

  • Improve up-sell service hours
  • Improve billable service hours

Quality -

  • Reduce rework

Safety -

  • No accidents or near miss incidents
. Requirements:

Heavy Equipment Technician Skills and Experience:

  • Minimum 2 year Diesel Technology, Automotive Technology or Heavy Equipment Technology degree or equivalent experience
  • 5 years of experience working on hydraulic, pneumatic and electrical systems or heavy equipment maintenance experience preferred
  • Welding and cutting torch experience
  • Has or has ability to obtain a basic tool set
  • High school diploma or equivalent or technical school graduate
  • Ability to read and comprehend instructions and information
  • Works in an efficient and effective manner
  • Organizational skills with ability to effectively manage multiple projects
  • Must have excellent external and internal customer service skills
  • Contributes to departmental and product line goals
  • Must be personable, highly motivated, a problem solver, reliable, ethical and able to adapt to all forces around them from customers, suppliers, coworkers and manufacturers
  • Be authorized to work in the USA

Nature and Scope of Position

  • Requires prolonged standing with periodic lifting, walking, standing, bending, stooping and stretching
  • Requires ability to push, lift, pull and/or carry 75 lbs. or more
  • Requires a valid drivers license, possess or have ability to obtain a CDL rating and the ability to maintain an insurable driving record
