When you think about your career and what you want to accomplish in your lifetime make the choice to do Work Worth Doing!ABOUT THE POSITIONThe Director of Engineering will exercise leadership to protect and advance the health, safety and welfare of the public through the practice of engineering and delivery of sustainable infrastructure.The Director provides high-level managerial work, guiding the overall functions of the Engineering Department. Key service areas include capital project management, including civil, mechanical and electrical planning, as well as design and construction activities for wastewater collection and treatment infrastructure. Reporting to the Chief Engineer and Director, this position manages a progressive team of professional engineers and technicians.Please see the attached brochure for more detailed information about the job.Please see the How to Apply section for important information regarding the application process.SALARY, BENEFITS, AND QUALIFICATIONSThe District provides a competitive compensation package, including a salary range between $114,400 to $154,800 annually, DOQ, participation in the top-rated Wisconsin Retirement System (WRS), and excellent health, dental, and other insurance, as well as generous vacation and sick time.Education and ExperienceRequired:Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or related field.Progressively responsible experience managing engineering programs and projects, which included at least two years leading and/or supervising employees.Proven professional engineering experience managing public works capital projects, preferably in the water or wastewater sector.Registered professional engineer in the State of Wisconsin, or the ability to obtain within six months of appointment.Certified as an Envision Sustainability Professional upon appointment.Demonstrated leadership to adequately and competently address issues surrounding sustainability in all phases of an infrastructure project.Preferred:Master's degree in engineering, management or related field.Knowledge, Skills and AbilitiesThorough knowledge of civil engineering principles, especially as they relate to the design, construction and maintenance of public works projects.Thorough knowledge and experience with civil engineering project planning, design and construction, including experience with computer-assisted design applications.Working knowledge of and experience with public sector contracting and bidding procedures.Working knowledge of supervisory principles and practices.Ability to actively support the mission, vision and values of the District and model leadership, trust and sustainability in all actions.Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including being an empathetic listener.Excellent interpersonal, negotiation and conflict-resolution skills.Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.Ability to act with integrity, professionalism and confidentiality.Ability to analyze data and qualitative information and use it to influence others.Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software, GIS software, asset management systems and CAD applications.Ability to effectively develop, collaborate and maintain working relationships with internal staff and external parties.Ability to lead change and function effectively in a changing environment.Ability to work calmly in a variety of stressful situations and to show adaptability and initiative.Resourceful problem-solving skills, with the knowledge and confidence to ask the right questions so problems, issues or concerns are addressed quickly before they occur or become critical.Respectful of cultural and personal differences and able to collaborate and work effectively in groups of diverse people representing diverse interests.Ability to work comfortably with peers at all levels in the organization; to be generous, courteous, capable and cooperative; and to help others succeed.This position is eligible for remote work.HOW TO APPLYREQUIRED: To be considered for this position you must submit a Resume and a one-to two-page Cover Letter addressing the following:Describe your experience managing complex public works construction projects.
