Description

The Thormodsgard Law Library is an active force in the educational life at the University of North Dakota School of Law, working in partnership with the School of Law to produce well-rounded legal professionals. The priority of the Law Library is to provide the collections and services necessary to support and strengthen the teaching, scholarship, research, and service programs of the UND School of Law students and faculty. As a state-assisted academic institution, the Law Library also serves as a source of legal information for the UND community, the bench and bar, and the public, as resources permit. Our goal is to serve in accordance with American Bar Association requirements and the Ethical Principles of the American Association of Law Libraries.

The primary purpose of the Head of Faculty Services position is to support law faculty scholarship, teaching, and service. The Head of Faculty Services also works with the Head of Student Services to provide services to the bench and bar. The Head of Faculty Services position reports directly to the Assistant Dean for Law Library & Information Services and works collaboratively with the Head of Student Services, the Head of Technical Services, and other members of the library staff.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • The Head of Faculty Services is responsible for providing research, reference, instructional, and other support for full-time and adjunct law faculty
  • Working in conjunction with the Head of Student Services, the Head of Faculty Services provides reference and other research services for law students, administrators, the bench and bar, and other library users
  • The Head of Faculty Services is responsible for planning and teaching the 2-credit Advanced Legal Research course and/or another course as needed
  • Perform senior administrative duties
  • The Head of Faculty Services keeps current on job-related research and trend

Required Competencies

  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Knowledge of major legal research resources, including both print and electronic resources
  • A solid understanding of how legal materials are created, organized, and used; and the ability to effectively instruct others in the use of those materials
  • Requires the ability to prioritize between varied tasks; meet deadlines; and proactively engage in efforts to improve law library services

Minimum Requirements

  • JD Degree from an ABA-accredited law school
  • Master's degree in library and information science or a related degree from an ALA-accredited institution
  • Successful completion of criminal history records check.

In compliance with federal law, all persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the US and to complete the required employment eligibility verification form upon hire.

Preferred Qualifications

  • At least 2 years of experience working in an academic law library
  • Experience teaching Advanced Legal Research or providing other forms of formal research instruction

Minimum Hiring Salary/Position Classification

$60,000 Annual starting salary, exempt

Work Schedule/Start Date

Start date no earlier than January 3, 2022

8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., Monday - Friday
