Job Information

As a Manufacturing Technician, you will assist and provide support to manufacturing operations on process, tools, and design to improve safety, quality, delivery, and costs. This position works very closely with multiple levels of the organization, from plant leadership to manufacturing associates.

Role & Responsibility

Program & Troubleshoot 
  • Knowledge and ability to proficiently program 3 of 5 equipment areas (paint, fab, weld, assembly, machining) or deemed a subject matter expert in 1 area to improve cycle time and cost as well as for engineering changes.
  • Troubleshoot equipment and programs as required by the operation.
  • KPI(s): Improved cycle time. Reduced costs.

Training 
  • Train operators on operating equipment associated with changes in process, tools, and the design of the manufacturing process and product. 
  • KPI(s): Operator satisfaction. Process improvement. Quality improvement.

Resolve Manufacturing Problems 
  • Assist in the investigation of manufacturing problems (safety, quality, delivery, cost) and make and implement recommendations to resolve and/or correct such problems.
  • Assist in the investigation of manufacturing processes, systems, equipment and materials in terms of their impact on quality and cost.
  • KPI(s): Improved quality. Improved safety. Reduced costs.

Maintain Established Procedures & Process Changes
  • Apply established engineering procedures and programs to establish manufacturing standards and methods for manpower, material and equipment utilization.
  • Process engineering changes on the shop floor along with writing work instructions and training the operators.
  • Review, recommend and recommend modifications to preliminary engineering designs for the purpose of process, quality and cost.
  • Work with appropriate departments during prototype and pilot builds to determine if product or component meets process and design specifications.
  • If not, investigate and recommend modifications to parts or process which assure compliance and improvement. 
  • Updating & maintaining routings through MRP/ERP systems.
  • KPI(s): Improved process. Improved quality. Reduced cost.

Project Implementation 
  • Evaluate, justify, design, select and implement machines, tools and equipment that increases quality and reduces cost.
  • KPI(s): Increase quality. Reduced cost.


Job Requirement

  • Strong applied mechanical skills and technical knowledge.
  • Associate’s degree, Technical, required. Equivalent experience allowed.
  • 2-5 years experience in Manufacturing or Product Development experience preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license required.

  • Physical Demands - The overall level of work is defined as heavy duty. Employees are expected to exert 51-70 pounds of force occasionally, 21-50 pounds of force frequently and/or 11-20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
  • Difficulties & area of focus when carrying out job - Requirements for a Manufacturing Technician II do not include all listed under Role & Responsibility.  It is expected that a level II Tech would know 3 of the 5 areas, or be a SME in 1 area, or manage other Techs or perform back office duties such as ECN routings.  All criteria are not required.

What skills, education, and experiences does your ideal candidate(s) have?

•Education Required: High School Diploma or Equivalent
•These are entry level opportunities
•Must be able to follow established methods and procedures and perform work accordingly. Must have the ability to work rapidly and under time pressure for extended periods of time in order to meet build requirements. Must possess the ability to read build sheets and blueprints.
•The ability to communicate with supervisors and fellow workers in both written and verbal forms at a level normally acquired through the completion of a high school diploma or GED is required.
•Job specific skills, techniques and safe work and equipment operating practices are learned through on-the-job and classroom training. General instructions are given on recurring duties, operations and assignments; detailed instructions are given on new duties, operations and assignments.
