THE POSITION
Direct, coordinate, and exercise highly technical functional authority for planning, organization, control, integration, and completion of engineering projects within area of specialized responsibility, including construction, lights, structures, sanitary sewer, storm sewer, street, water, traffic engineering, surveying, and inspection activities.
This position is one of two Principal Engineers for Construction leading project delivery team. This team is responsible for delivering 100+ projects a year with a construction value of approximately $70 million. This position will supervise a staff of 4-5 engineers/technicians in delivering these projects. Duties specific to this position include providing construction oversight for the capital improvement program, addressing construction issues, solving stakeholder concerns, and communicating with the public, media, and other customers.
This position is included in the membership of South Dakota Retirement System (SDRS).
QUALIFICATION STANDARDS
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor of science degree in civil engineering and four (4) years' practical experience in related civil engineering work including work associated with the management and supervision of construction project work; or any such combination of education, experience, and training as may be acceptable to the hiring authority.
Must be registered, or have the ability to obtain registration within six (6) months of hire, as a professional engineer in the state of South Dakota and/or registered land surveyor in the state of South Dakota.
Possession of a valid driver's license is desirable.
