Overview

Reporting to the Plant Manager, the Assembly Supervisor is primarily responsible for overseeing a team of production assemblers responsible for the overall assembly of SCAG products. This individual will manage the Assembly line, assign tasks, and will support the overall operation by ensuring full utilization of the Assembly department resources.



Responsibilities

  • Prioritize, schedule, and delegate work assignments, and directly supervise the Assembly department to ensure the production of company products at the highest quality at the lowest possible cost, meeting company performance standards, and customer specification and delivery requirements, in accordance with company policies and procedures.
  • Develop, recommend, and implement departmental policies and procedures, processes, and methods.
  • Confer with management or subordinates to resolve worker problems, complaints, or grievances.
  • Inspect materials, products, or equipment to detect defects or malfunctions.
  • Confer with other supervisors to coordinate operations and activities within or between departments.
  • Recommend or implement measures to motivate employees and to improve production methods, equipment performance, product quality, or efficiency.
  • Conduct employee training in equipment operations or work and safety procedures, or assign employee training to experienced workers.
  • Direct and coordinate the activities of employees engaged in the production of goods.
  • Read and analyze charts, work orders, production schedules, and other records and reports to determine production requirements and to evaluate current production estimates and outputs.
  • Plan and establish work schedules, assignments, and production sequences to meet production goals.
  • Ensure the completion of all required production paperwork, records, documentation, such as time cards, quality records, etc.
  • Act as a technical resource to address and resolve inquiries and problems; analyze and resolve work problems, and assist workers in solving work problems.
  • Requisition materials, supplies, equipment parts, or repair services.
  • Observe work and monitor output to ensure that operators conform to production or processing standards.
  • Approve vacation schedules.
  • Ensure compliance with departmental housekeeping standards and all safety and work rules and regulations.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Qualifications

Requires a bachelor's degree and one to two years related experience; or two years of college and three to five years of progressively responsible related experience; or four years of high school and seven to ten years of progressively responsible related experience; or a combination of education and experience.

  • Supervisory experience ideally in a metal fabrication shop
  • Understanding Lean Principles
  • Understanding of assembly line flow and quick change overs
  • Design, define and plan the manufacturing process. Conduct time and capability studies.
  • Define and recommend equipment, methods, processes, layouts, materials, and manpower changes in accordance with recommendations from conducted analysis.
  • Work to continually improve current processes by analyzing direct and indirect labor, equipment, and processing costs to ensure that economical manufacturing procedures and processes are used.
  • Apply ergonomic principles to methods and layouts.
  • Ability to lead and monitor peers
  • Identify opportunities and implement changes to improve productivity.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in both verbal and written formats
  • Good computer skills are also required, as well as knowledge of manufacturing reporting software
