Overview
Reporting to the Mechanical Engineering Manager; the Automation Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for the design creation and detailing of custom automation systems and specialty machines.
Responsibilities
- Design custom automation systems and specialty machines with the integration of robotics using lean manufacturing tools including tooling, fixturing, and EOAT.
- Create detail sheet metal, weldment, and assembly drawings of custom automation designs.
- Provide system layouts and installation drawings
- Research, design, and evaluate mechanical products, equipment, systems, and processes to meet customer expectations.
- Specify mechanical and pneumatic components for procurement and/or direct modification of products working with vendors to ensure conformance with engineering design and customer expectations.
- Conduct reach analysis, and sizing of robotic arms.
- Complete all necessary Project Information Documents.
- Help identify and cultivate new sales opportunities by building relationships with existing, new, and potential customers/vendors.
- Participate in project reviews to help ensure projects are completed on time and budget consistent with customers' expectations.
- Research and stay current with best available technologies related to automation.
- Operate in a team environment to help meet or exceed customer expectations.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Associate's or Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field - recent graduates encouraged to apply!
- Excellent communication and project management skills.
- Possess strong ME skill sets that will be utilized in the design of custom automation systems
- Obtains Fanuc robot knowledge and experience.
- Strong knowledge of 2D and 3D modeling software design tools to assist in the development, and design of custom automation systems
- Able to translate automation conceptual designs into functional equipment.
- Proficient user of Microsoft Office products.
- Able to think analytically and creatively while keeping safety and cost in mind.
- Able to operate on own initiative with minimal supervision, but also contribute as a team member working within the Mechanical Engineering team and other cross functional teams.
- Working knowledge of lean manufacturing tools and Six Sigma DMAIC strategy used to improve, optimize, and stabilize manufacturing processes and designs.
- Able to read manufacturing blueprints, and working knowledge of GD&T and AWS Standards.
- SAP knowledge is a plus
