This position is responsible for repairing and maintaining all types of production equipment, including new equipment, while maintaining a quality production environment. Generates and implements innovative ideas for plant improvements and modification of existing equipment. Fabricates complex parts for existing and new machines by following blueprints and sketches. Works with other departments in major equipment upgrades and modifications. Trains other employees on the theory and operation of plant equipment.

Responsibilities & Duties:
  • Diagnoses mechanical problems and determines how to correct them, checking blueprints, repair manuals, or parts catalogs, as necessary.
  • Dismantles machines, equipment, or devices to access and remove defective parts, using hoists, cranes, hand tools, or power tools.
  • Assembles, installs, or repairs pipe systems, plumbing, machinery, or equipment.
  • Performs routine maintenance, such as inspecting pumps, belts, checking fluid levels, or doing other preventive maintenance actions.
  • Reads and follows equipment manuals, blueprints, sketches, layouts, and Maintenance Work Order Requests.
  • Uses shop equipment to perform repairs (Lathe, Mill, Drill press, Torch, Saws, Grinders, and Welders).
  • Operates cutting torches or welding equipment to cut or join metal parts.
  • Works as a team member while completing all assignments efficiently.
  • Works with tight measurement tolerances (.000x).
  • Follows all site safety standards (LOTO, PPE).
  • Documents time spent in plant on the Maintenance Work Order in SAP.
  • Resolves problems independently and in groups.
  • Responsible to follow Food Safety Quality requirements such as Good Manufacturing Practices and other daily/job specific duties to support Quality Risk Management Programs.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned by the Supervisor or Team Leader.


Qualifications:
  • Minimum of two years of related experience required.
  • Associates/Technical Degree in Industrial Maintenance preferred.
  • Mechanical - Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance, including detailed knowledge of pneumatics and hydraulics.
  • Repairing - Repairing machines or systems using the needed tools.
  • Troubleshooting - Determining causes of operating errors and deciding what to do about it.
  • Critical Thinking - Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.
  • Active Learning - Understanding the implications of new information for both current and future problem-solving and decision-making.
  • Basic understanding of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Email)
  • English Language Skills - Ability to communicate verbally, read, and write
  • Time Management - Managing one's own time.
  • Establishing and Maintaining Interpersonal Relationships - Developing constructive and cooperative working relationships with others and maintaining them over time.
  • Ability to work with a variety of precision measurement instruments (calipers, micrometers, dial indicators, rulers, etc.).
  • Able to use various mechanical hand and power tools.
  • Able to work with little or no direct supervision at times.
  • Capable of completing all necessary training on and off site.
  • Regularly requires face-to-face discussions.
  • Requires the ability to use hands to handle, control, or feel objects, tools, or controls.
  • Requires the ability to wear common protective or safety equipment such as safety shoes, glasses, gloves, hearing protection, or hard hats.
  • Requires frequent standing and walking.
  • Requires the ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally.
  • Work is performed around industrial equipment.
  • Requires the ability to work at heights.
  • Must be able to work in tight or confined spaces.
  • Must be available to work a flexible schedule with extended hours as necessary to cover business. needs including the ability to work weekends and holidays as needed.

Work Schedule:
  • Must be able to work all shifts, including weekends/holidays.
  • Shifts:
    • First Shift: 5am - 1pm
    • Second Shift: 1pm - 9pm
    • Third Shift: 9pm - 5am

  • Plant History:
    • J.L. Kraft purchased the Phenix Cheese Company in 1928, only 25 years after selling cheese to grocers in Chicago from his horse drawn wagon.
    • In 1929, approximately 90 employees in the Kraft-Phenix Cheese Plant in Beaver Dam produced 10 million pounds of Philadelphia Cream Cheese, Neufchatel, Camambert Cheeses, along with butter and sweet cream.
    • Separation technology, which allowed cream cheese to stay fresher much longer - going from 18 days to 120 days, was developed in Beaver Dam by Oscar J. Link in the 1940's.
    • In the 1960's the plant underwent a major remodeling to add additional cooler storage and dry storage. Kraft Heinz continues to invest in the Beaver Dam facility with state-of-the-art technologies in the cream cheese industry.
