Overview

Provide functional leadership and support for the pharmacy, under the direction of a pharmacist. Work will be done in the central pharmacy and additional areas in the hospital. Work will include compounding and distribution of pharmaceuticals, preparation of IV solutions including chemotherapy, pulling and filling of mediations for our automated dispensing machines, and assisting and meeting the needs of the pharmacy.

Responsibilities/Job Description

  • Adhere to USP 797 and other regulations governing all sterile compounding processes (e.g. sterile technique, garbing, cleaning and documentation).
  • Mix and label IV admixtures accurately and safely including: IV solutions, infusions, Total Parenteral Nutrition (TPN), biologicals, piggybacks, syringes, chemotherapy and other hazardous agents.
  • Able to perform pharmaceutical calculations.
  • Audit medication storage areas for proper storage of medications, dating and appropriate medication stock. Fill and distribute routine stock orders for patient care areas.
  • Complete work activities through effective management of time, tasks and available information.
  • Teach and mentor co-workers, pharmacist and pharmacy technician students.
  • Order medications through drug wholesaler, and specialized ordering (340b)
  • Respond to internal and external customer questions and concerns in a professional and customer-focused manner.
  • Perform under the direction of the Pharmacist the identification and resolution of patient specific medication related issues in the patient's best interest.
  • Deliver medications, supplies and equipment to patient care areas and other clinical areas as appropriate.
  • Fill hospital patient specific cartfill.
  • Pull and deliver medications for automated dispensing system in hosptal.
  • Fill crash cart trays, and emergency kits.
  • Receive, unpack, and check incoming stock against invoices and place into inventory.
  • Answer and appropriately triage incoming phone calls.
  • Communicate appropriately, using all options available including e-mail


Qualifications

  • Preferred Education: Graduate of an approved pharmacy technician program......
  • Minimum License/Certification/Registration: Active technician registration with the Minnesota Board of Pharmacy. Have or obtain pharmacy technician certification within 12 months of hiring date.
  • Preferred Experience: One to three years hospital pharmacy experience.
  • Additional Requirements: Excellent customer service skills, proficient in the English language, good attention to detail, ability to problem solve effectively, ability to follow policies and procedures, basic math skills, basic typing skills and excellent communication skills.
