Description Retain, recruit, support, and ensure success for the students in the Master of Special Education Resident Teacher program Duties & Responsibilities

Principal Investigator of the Special Education Resident Teacher Program

  • Collaborate with EHD’s Financial Manager to oversee the SERTP’s approximate $700,000 annual budget
  • Secure grant funding from NDDPI annually
  • Collaborate and communicate with Special Education Directors and/or other school administrators regarding the multi-sponsor contract funding annually
  • Demonstrate critical thinking to create financial forecasts and make budgeting decisions
  • Discuss annual budgets with state agencies (i.e. school districts and/or special education units, North Dakota Department of Public Instruction [NDDPI]), and other identified partners  
  • Review budget requests for approval
  • Forecast future budget needs
  • Be able to explain the budget and financial information to state agencies and other identified partners  
  • Seek opportunities for additional funding
  • Consider and plan for overall costs for the SERTP, school districts/SPED units, the students, and NDDPI
  • Plan, budget, and process all RT scholarships and stipends
  • Plan and budget for costs of UND employees associated with the SERTP
  • Process travel expenses for UND Mentor/s
  • Liaise with state agencies and other identified partners such as the NDESPB, and NDDPI, and schools/SPED units regarding the SERTP
  • Develop and maintain relationships with identified partners
  • Collaborate with EHD’s Financial Manager to determine the overall budget
  • Collaborate with UND’s Grants and Contracts Office and EHD’s Financial Manager to ensure federal and non-federal multi-sponsor contracts are correctly executed
  • Collaborate with UND’s Grants and Contracts Office and EHD’s Financial Manager to ensure the federal grant money is correctly executed
  • Collaborate with UND Legal Counsel to ensure the RT Agreement is updated and meets current requirements
  • Ensure all RTs have signed the RT Agreement
  • Ensure the RT Agreements are fully executed
  • Collaborate with EHD’s Financial Manager to amend contracts when necessary
  • Approve percentage of work completed by UND Mentor/s and RTs for UND’s Grants and Contracts Office

Director of the Special Education Resident Teacher Program

 

  • Respond to queries from prospective RT candidates
  • Respond to queries from schools/SPED units across North Dakota regarding prospective RT placements
  • Prepare and distribute RT recruitment advertising and marketing materials
  • Strategize opportunities to enhance recruitment efforts and implement identified strategies
  • Plan and manage the RT application process
  • Ensure candidates fulfil the three-step application process
  • Oversee the RT interview process
  • Oversee the RT placement process with schools/SPED units across the state
  • Assist schools to meet their specific needs
  • Assist RTs in applying for their North Dakota teaching license
  • Ensure all RTs submit a current and valid North Dakota teaching license
  • Oversee the GTA hiring process at UND
  • Collaborate with the HR and Payroll Office and EHD staff to ensure all hiring paperwork is completed
  • Collaborate with EHD staff to ensure all required employment trainings are completed by the RTs
  • Ensure qualified UND Mentor/s are hired and provide initial and on-going training  
  • Assign RTs to the UND Mentor/s
  • Collaborate with UND Mentor/s regarding the SERTP’s programmatic decisions 
  • Collaborate with UND Mentor/s to ensure RT assignments are aligned to graduate coursework
  • Collaborate with UND Mentor/s to ensure RT assignments are aligned CAEP standards, CEC standards, InTASC standards, and other accreditation requirements
  • Provide academic advisement and/or assist UND Mentor/s to provide academic advisement to RTs
  • Plan and organize the orientation session for incoming RTs
  • Provide orientation meetings to RT Teams in the schools
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the requirements of UND’s Master of Education and Master of Science in Special Education as well as the requirements associated with the 10 specialization areas
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the MEd and MS accreditation requirements
  • Demonstrate an understanding of North Dakota special education teacher licensure requirements
  • Ensure the SERTP meets changing licensure requirements
  • Design and implement creative ways to meet the critical shortage of special education teachers
  • Provide assistance to UND Mentor/s to problem-solve issues regarding RTs and their school placements
  • Provide assistance to UND Mentor/s to problem-solve issues regarding RT assignments and/or requirements
  • Meet with RT Teams when problems arise
  • Assist UND Mentor/s to develop improvement plans when necessary  
  • Terminate RTs when necessary and complete all necessary paperwork

Coordinator of the Accelerated Bachelor of General Studies and Master of Education

 

  • Respond to queries from prospective candidates
  • Respond to queries from schools/SPED units across North Dakota regarding prospective candidates
  • Prepare and distribute recruitment advertising and marketing materials
  • Strategize opportunities to enhance recruitment efforts and implements identified strategies
  • Connect candidates with academic advisors in the College of Arts and Sciences
  • Collaborate with academic advisors on assisting candidates to build Academic Life Plans
  • Ensure schools/SPED units across North Dakota are interested in supporting these candidates as RTs in the future
  • Continue to grow the Accelerated BGS/MEd in SPED as a feeder for the SERTP

Minimum Requirements

  • Masters degree in Special Education or related field 
  • Experience as a Principal Investigator overseeing both grants and multi-sponsor contracts. 
  • Experience working with State Agencies and Public Schools/SPED Units as well as knowledge and specific experience related to reducing the critical shortage of special education teachers.
  • Experience recruiting, hiring, and managing 20+ Graduate Teaching Assistants.  Must also have experience supervising veteran special education teachers who will mentor the GTAs. 
  • 5 years of experience working as a special education teacher in the public schools as well as teaching adult learners who are working to be fully licensed special education teachers.  Must possess excellent interpersonal and intrapersonal skills, communication skills, and organizational skills. 
  • Successful completion of criminal history records check.

Commensurate with experience, exempt

20 hours per week/August 16, 2021
