Account Development Sales

Position Overview

The Account Development Sales position is generally focused on sales opportunities for customers that are not currently supported within the Assigned Accounts Department. Account Development Sales acts as the first point of contact with existing and new customers to answer their queries, research the customer's immediate component needs and align the business solutions Digi-Key has to offer to increase sales and customer engagement.

Through research, lead analysis and relationship building, this role balances customer needs and bottom line profitability in order to provide best possible service to the customer including utilization of Digi-Key services.

The ideal candidate must be a confident, motivated individual with great organizational skills and the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.

This is not exclusively an essential onsite role, though may require some onsite attendance.

Responsibilities: Must be able to...
  • Research and profile customers without a dedicated salesperson
  • Represent the Digi-Key brand by providing excellent customer service
  • Educate customers on Digi-Key services and align appropriate solutions with customer needs
  • Utilize internal/external resources and tools to capture and grow business
  • Follow up on sales leads/opportunities
  • Build professional relationships internally/externally
  • Identify profitable customers where Digi-Key would benefit if they had a dedicated salesperson
  • Organize the internal sales process including processing orders, corrections, and general order activities.
  • Monitor sales activity and trends
  • Understand cost to resale calculations and manage gross profit to set guidelines
  • Actively participate in business related communications
  • Align actions|recommendations in order to help reach departmental & regional objectives; articulate your impact on those metrics (within your scope of responsibility)
  • Must demonstrate the following behavioral competencies: Initiative and Professionalism
  • Other duties as assigned including but not limited to possible reallocation of efforts to other organizations per business need and management request.


Other Typical Tasks May also Include:

  • Participation in team staff meetings as well as other meetings or seminars
  • Active participation in customer conference calls and strategy meetings
  • Additional responsibilities and ad hoc requests from the Assigned Sales leadership
  • Testing system updates/applications
  • Taking part in cross-functional working teams or tasks forces
  • Assisting in the creation and documentation of processes for training purposes as well as the facilitation of training
  • Travel - internationally and|or domestically - as needed or as warranted

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Experience
  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Digi-Key experience in Sales, Marketing, or other relevant work experience
  • Successful completion of the training provided (system 'know-how' & sales 'know-how')
  • Understand of the various functions of Digi-Key and the industry Digi-Key operates in
  • Knowledge of Digi-Key brand and its principles
  • Generally, spend the workday sitting at a workstation and operating computer devices, such as, but not limited to keyboard, mouse and screen
  • Generally, spend the workday performing repetitive motions that involve or affect the hands, head, and other parts of your body
