Overview
Full-time, benefited position working 70 flex hours per two week pay period. Days of work are typically Monday-Friday with hours from 5:00am - 12:30pm, occasional Saturday and Sunday and occasional holidays, typically 7:30am - 5:45pm. Weekend and holiday work are as needed.
Prepares breakfast for patients and cafe daily. Preps items for salad bar and prepares salads, sandwiches and other items for Grab-n-Go refrigerator. Prepares and delivers caterings as scheduled. Fill in for cook posiiton as needed. Completes other assignments as assigned.
Under the supervision of the Nutrition Services Supervisor, prepares and mixes ingredients for salads, and similar cold dishes for the salad bar, cafeteria, and patient meals. Prepares breakfast items for patients and cafeteria service daily. Sets up (or checks) and delivers catering carts with special food and beverage requests as needed.

Work requires a high school level of knowledge in reading, writing, and/or arithmetic. Requires the ability to understand and communicate detailed instructions and procedures.
A minimum of one to three months at this hospital to meet the basic quantity and quality of standards of the job.

Responsibilities
- Receives written and oral instructions concerning type and quantity of cold food to be prepared for patients, cafeteria, and caterings.
- Prepares hot food items for breakfast for patient meals and café service.
- Runs hot food tray assembly for morning patient meal.
- Practices proper portion control techniques.
- Sets up (or checks set up) and delivers caterings as scheduled.
- Plans production schedule to ensure that food will be ready at specified times.
- Measures and mixes ingredients according to recipes using a variety of kitchen utensils and equipment such as ovens, food processors, mixers, steamers, etc.
- Arranges salad ingredients in an attractive and appetizing manner and places prepared salads in refrigerator until café meal service, patient meals or caterings.
- Tests food being prepared for doneness and appropriate taste. Adjusts cooking temperatures, times, or recipes as required.
- Assures safe handling of food from receiving, storage, preparation, and service using H.A.C.C.P. principles.
- Inputs meals for patient into CBORD computer program when needed.
Miscellaneous Responsibilities
- Answers the department telephone calls, as needed.
- Consistently uses AIDET communication skills with patients, guests and employees.
- Ensures work area is kept in a clean, neat and orderly manner.
- Contributes to overall Nutrition Services Department and ever growing services.
- Assures that personal behavior complies with the hospital's Standards of Behavior at all times.
- Performs other related duties as assigned or requested by department supervisor or manager.
